The Little Ball of Hate earns his nickname every time he steps on the ice and just about every player on the Penguins would most certainly agree. As would members of the Maple Leafs, Rangers and just about every other team in the NHL, AHL and QMJHL. Brad Marchand has been playing with emotion all postseason, and, despite a few “bad penalties” here and there, he’s been one of the best players on the ice. “He’s just more involved, more confident,” head coach Claude Julien said on Friday afternoon. “But every year in the playoffs, not only does he become a target for other teams, but he responds to it.  What he’s got to do is respond to it in a positive way.  We saw him in Game 2 where he took off, scored a goal.  I think that’s a great way to respond. “As long as he doesn’t cross the line,” he added, “we’ve got to keep him in check.  His emotion is what makes him a real good player.  You have to let him play with some emotion. Again, as long as he doesn’t cross the line…”

Bruins’ Adam McQuaid scores on laser slapshot

During Game 4 of the Pittsburgh Penguins-Boston Bruins series, Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid scored off this amazing shot.  It was a lazy line change by the Penguins and so McQuaid found himself wide open when he entered the zone.  Brad Marchand showed exceptional patience, turning towards the boards and waiting to hit a wide-open McQuaid.  McQuaid’s shot was absolutely perfect...

Kaspars Daugavins Skating With Rich Peverley, Tyler Seguin at Morning Skate

Kaspars Daugavins may get some time to shine on Friday night. According to NESN’s Naoko Funayama, Daugavins was skating with Rich Peverley and Tyler Seguin on the third line at morning skate. Chris Kelly took Gregory Campbell’s spot on the Merlot Line with Daniel Paille and Shawn Thornton. Bruins new 3rd and 4th lines without Campbell in mix: Daugavins-Peverley-Seguin, Paille...

Tuukka Rask Answers Closeout Questions With Dominant Performance Against Penguins

BOSTON — We can stop with those silly questions now when it comes to Tuukka Rask. Facing arguably the best offense in hockey today, Rask turned in perhaps the greatest four-game stretch of his life with another shutout win in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final. In the process, Rask hopefully quieted some of the nay-sayers when it comes to his ability to close out a series....

Report: Gregory Campbell has broken leg, done for season

It was one of the most inspiration moments of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs but, unfortunately for Gregory Campbell, it will also be his last. During the second period of last night’s Game 3 in Boston, Campbell hit the deck to block an Evgeni Malkin slapshot and wound up taking a puck hard off the side of the leg. Despite appearing seriously injured, Campbell stayed on the ice...

Gregory Campbell Puts Himself, This Year’s B’s Among Big Bad, Bruins With Game 3 Performance

Gregory Campbell‘s season appears to be over after he blocked a rocket off the stick of Evgeni Malkin. His teammates were grateful but nowhere near surprised Wednesday night that Soupy sacrificed his body on the ice for his team. What should also be understood about this play is that Campbell blocked a shot during a tie game against the best team in the East during the second period...

Boston Bruins Gregory Campbell has broken leg

Boston Bruins forward Gregory Campbell sustained a broken right leg during the second period of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals on Wednesday when he was hit by a slap shot by the Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin. Campbell was unable to get off the ice because the Penguins controlled the puck, so he endured the pain for 45 seconds before heading to the locker room. He will be out...

Tuukka Rask Stopped 53 Shots In 95 Minutes During Bruins 2OT Win

A.B. 53 saves on 54 shots. Over 95 minutes of total ice time. Rask looked first-period-fresh even deep into the second OT. Pittsburgh fans can ***** and moan all they want about hitting the post multiple times, but Rask was in position. Not every puck that hits iron was going in the net. The old addage is that it takes a hot goaltender to win the Stanley Cup. Crosby and Malking are...

GIF: Zdeno Chara makes a huge save in the final minutes of Game 4

The Boston Bruins were desperately trying to hold on to a 1-0 lead late in Game 4. The Pittsburgh Penguins were finally generating strong offensive chances, throwing countless pucks toward Tuukka Rask's net. With just over a minute to go, Evgeni Malkin fired a shot at what appeared to be an empty net. Cue Zdeno Chara's tree branch arms. Chara's hand stops the puck, preserving...

Bruins Sweep Penguins With Second Shutout of ECF

Zero.   Zero goals scored by Penguins players.  Zero goals (and points for that matter) scored combined by Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jerome Iginla, James Neal and Kris Letang.  Zero words heard by Tuukka Rask in Coach Julien's pre game speech Rask said in a post game interview that he didn't listen.  Zero doubt that Rask has silenced every critic of his in Boston...

The Abrasive Bruins

from Tony Gallagher of the Vancouver Province, There is considerable similarity between the Boston Bruins in these playoffs and Broad Street Bullies of old in that they approach the game with virtually the same theory with respect to the officiating, whether they know it or not. Hear us out here — don’t go jumping off the handle. This isn’t to say the Bruins are picking...

Bruins sweep Penguins, advance to Stanley Cup Final

The Boston Bruins defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0 on Friday and swept the teams' Eastern Conference Final series, advancing to the Stanley Cup Final, where they'll face the winner of the Los Angeles-Chicago series (presumably next Wednesday or Friday). I can't help but think that even in the defensive struggle that took place on Friday, somewhat ironically decided...

Bryzgalov’s Future and Trade Rumors

Last night, the Boston Bruins completed their sweep of the Pittsburgh Penguins to conclude the Eastern Conference Finals. They will advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time in three years. In the West, the Blackhawks have the opportunity to eliminate the Kings tonight and join the Bruins. While three teams continue to [...]

Pens Swept In 4 By Boston: Now What...???

((HT: NHL on NBCSN/CBC)) For the first time in over thirty years, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been swept in a playoff series- losing 1-0 in Game 4 in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Boston Bruins. Tuukka Rask only gave up two goals in the four games in the series. And the Pittsburgh Penguins seemed stymied (and that's putting it lightly) when their high-flying offense...

NHL Playoff Observations -- Brooms Come Out

Just a few things that caught my eye: Best save of the night? Zdeno Chara's backhanded snag in the last minute. That stung, but not as much as it would have had the puck found twine. Tuukka Rask, second-best goalie in the world or just lucky? Discuss. Patrick Kane finally showed up Thursday night. He even back checked. Amazing. Bryan Bickell...
