TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Adrian Clayborn injured his groin early in practice Wednesday and did not return. The severity of the injury is unknown, coach Greg Schiano said."He couldn't practice the rest of the day," Schiano said. "I dont know. That's usually not a good sign."The injury represents another possible setback for Clayborn, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee last year in a Week 3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. A first-round pick in 2011, 20th overall, Clayborn had two tackles in 2012. He had 54 tackles with 7 12 sacks as a rookie, finishing second among first-year defensive linemen in sacks.Schiano described Clayborn, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound Iowa product, as "incredibly frustrated" Wednesday when leaving the field. Clayborn, a St. Louis native, did not practice after individual drills, which usually occur in the practice's early periods.Rookie Steven Means, a Buffalo product taken in the fifth round, 147th overall, took reps in Clayborn's place later in practice."He just gets it rolling again, and something is holding him back," Schiano said of Clayborn. "That's the way life goes. You've just got to keep battling. He will."When one guy has an adversity like that, it's another guy's opportunity. That's how I try to explain it to the guy who is stepping in. Here's your shot." It is only July. But on a steamy night in Boston, it felt much, much later.
