The Baby Birds went 4-3 on Friday as Memphis, Palm Beach, State College, and Johnson City all won. Springfield, Peoria, and the GCL Cards all lost. Here are quick game summaries followed by the official box score: The Memphis Redbirds defeated Tucson 4-2 on Friday. Mike O’Neill (for the 3rd straight game), Justin Christian, and Audry Perez each had 2 hits. Chris Swauger hit his first Triple-A home run in the 6th. Kolten Wong had an RBI and a walk/ Carlos Martinez was solid over 5 innings. Martinez allowed 1 run on 2 hits, 4 walks, and he struck out 3 over 5 innings to pick up his 4th win. Jorge Rondon followed with two innings and a run allowed. Deryk Hooker pitched a scoreless 8th and Fernando Salas picked up his 5th save with a scoreless 9th. Player of the Game: Chris Swauger Box Score The Springfield Cardinals fell to Arkansas 11-7 on Friday. The Travelers scored 8 runs in the third to put the game out of reach. James Ramsey and Luis Mateo each had 3 hits, while Mateo scored 3 runs. Starlin Rodriguez also had three hits and he drove in 5 runs. Adam Melker had a pair of hits and 2 runs scored. Colin Walsh also had 2 hits as the Cards pounded out 16 hits.  Tim Cooney couldn’t get through that 8-run third and allowed only 4 earned runs on 7 hits and he issued 1 walk while striking out 2. Justin Wright allowed 2 runs over 2 1/3 innings. Zach Russell threw 2 scoreless innings and Danny Miranda allowed a run on 3 hits in the 8th inning. Player of the Game: Starlin Rodriguez Box Score Palm Beach beat Dunedin 5-1 on Friday.  Danny Stienstra had three hits and two runs batted in. Jonathan Rodriguez added two hits including his 13th home run and 3 runs batted in. Nick Longmire also added 2 hits. Jesus Montero and Ronny Gil were the only two Beach Birds without a hit. Marco Gonzales made his first High-A start and it was a successful one. In 3 innings, Gonzales allowed 1 hit, 2 walks, and he struck out 2. Tyler Melling threw 4 hitless innings for the Cards and Logan Billbrough added 2 innings with one run allowed. Player of the Game: Jonathan Rodriguez Box Score The Peoria Chiefs fell to Quad Cities 5-2 on Friday. The Chiefs scored both of their runs in the first inning. C.J. McElroy, Bruce Caldwell, Jordan Walton, and Breyvic Valera each had 2 hits. Walton and Valera had the two RBI’s. Caldwell and McElroy scored the two runs. Silfredo Garcia picked up his fourth loss allowing 4 runs on 7 hits over 5 innings. Joseph Scanio allowed a run in 2 innings and Dixon Llorens pitched a scoreless 8th. Player of the Game: Breyvic Valera Box Score The State College Spikes beat Vermont 1-0 in walk-off fashion on Friday night. Steven Ramos singled home Brett Wiley for the winner. Luis Perez had two hits for the Spikes. Ramos, Cesar Valera, Juan Herrera, Carson Kelly, and Luke Voit all singled. Arturo Reyes was stellar on the mound for the Spikes. In 5 innings, Reyes allowed 2 hits, no runs, 1 walk, and he struck out 5. Victor De Leon relieved Reyes and pitched 3 scoreless innings. Mitch Harris pitched a scoreless 9th for his second win. Harris has a season ERA of 0.49. Player of the Game: Arturo Reyes Box Score Johnson City won big 11-3 over Kingsport on Friday. Vaughn Bryan had 2 hits, including his 3rd home run, 3 runs scored, and 2 walks out of the lead-off spot. Jhohan Acevedo had 2 hits, 2 runs, and 3 RBI’s following Bryan in the lineup. Justin Ringo continued the hit parade for the Cardinals. Ringo hit his second home run and had 3 RBI’s. J.J. Altobelli had two hits as well. Nick Lomascolo started and allowed 1 earned run in 4 innings. Anderson Gerdel allowed 1 run over 3 innings to pick up his second win. Michael Holback closed it out with 2 scoreless innings. Player of the Game: Justin Ringo Box Score The GCL Cards got pounded by the GCL Marlins 10-1 on Friday. Elier Rodriguez had 3 hits including a double. The Cardinals had singles from Jake Stone, DeAndre Asbury, Jose Gomez, and Malik Collymore. Isaac Silva allowed 4 runs over 3 1/3 innings in his start. Dylan Hawkins, an undrafted free-agent allowed 2 runs in 2 2/3 inning. Kender Villeges pitched a scoreless innings and Kyle Grana struggled in the 8th inning allowing 4 runs (none earned) and struck out 2.
