Let's face it, this is a good, but not great Cardinals team. The recent stretch has proven that.
The Cardinals squared off against division leaders Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Los Angeles and lost 10 of 12.
Perhaps the Cards just caught those teams at the wrong time, but the team is certainly showing signs of mediocrity.

ST. LOUIS -- When the Cardinals optioned reliever Michael Blazek to Triple-A Memphis after Sunday's win over the Cubs, an active-roster spot was vacated. The Cardinals filled that spot Tuesday by recalling infielder Jermaine Curtis from Memphis.
Curtis, 26, will be in the dugout when the Cardinals face the Pirates on Tuesday night. This is his second big league stint this season...
On Saturday, the St. Louis Cardinals managed to piece together five runs, five more runs than they did the previously night off of Chris Rusin (who is that?), but managed to lose to the Chicago Cubs yet again. Matt Holliday was the source of most of the offense with a pair of home runs, but other than him and Jon Jay, the Cardinals offense has been rather quiet of late.
The St. Louis Cardinals will get a huge boost on Thursday if all goes according to plan. All-Star catcher Yadier Molina is expected to be activated Thursday barring any setbacks. He has made significant progress in his rehab, and he appears ready to go. So much so that he even practiced in full gear yesterday.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says Molina worked...

ST. LOUIS -- With two more series to come with the Pirates after this week, this upcoming three-game set hardly is a must-win for the Cardinals in the race for the NL Central. Only three games separate the teams heading into Tuesday night.
