Throughout the year, we will provide the recaps of both teams, as well as highlight one player/stat each day. PIRATES1 Box Score Result: Pirates 11, Yankees2 3 Starting Pitcher: Christian Henriquez, LHP (1.87) 4.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 0 HR Top Hitter: Sandy Santos, RF (.209) – 2-for-4, 3B, BB, SB, 4 RBI Other Notable Performers: Dennis Hurtarte, 1B (.241) – 4-for-5 Julio de la Cruz, DH (.199) – 0-for-2, 3 BB Christopher De Leon, RHP (3.76) – 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 HR Johan De Jesus, SS (.199) – 1-for-4 Game Notes: The Pirates1 may not have a 12 game win streak like the other club, but they have been playing well lately. They have won six in a row as they try to finish their season strong. The Pirates1 have a 38-29 record. The offense put together 11 runs on 12 hits and eight walks, with Dennis Hurtarte leading the way with four of those hits. Sandy Santos had four RBI’s and scored three runs, while Hurtarte and Ramses Pena each scored two runs. Starter Christian Henriquez had four straight five inning appearances without allowing a run before Monday. He got roughed up a bit and came up just short of qualifying for the win, which went to reliever Brayan Almonte. Christopher De Leon picked up the save with 2.2 no-hit innings. It was his fourth save of the season. PIRATES2 Box Score Result: Pirates 2, Cubs 1 Starting Pitcher: Dario Agrazal Jr, RHP (6-0, 2.40) – 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 0 HR Top Hitter: Jose Salazar, 3B (.233) – 2-for-4, 2 2B, RBI Other Notable Performers: Alexis Bastardo, RF (.278) – 2-for-4, 2B Michael de la Cruz, CF (.287) –  0-for-3, 2 BB Yoel Gonzalez, C (.179) –  1-for-3, BB Andres Mendoza, RHP (3.23) – 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0 HR Jhoan Herrera, DH (.238) –  0-for-3 Game Notes: The Pirates2 won for the 12th time in a row, improving their record to 42-23, with less than a week left in the season. They took a one game lead in the wildcard standings on Saturday and they are now three games back of the Cubs in the division, with one more meeting between the two clubs on Tuesday. Starter Dario Agrazal Jr moved his career record to 6-0 with the win, throwing a two hit shutout over five innings. Alexis Bastardo had two hits and scored two runs, continuing his recent hot streak that saw him end last week with ten RBI’s over a three game span. Michael de la Cruz continued his slump that has dropped his average below .300 recently. He drew two walks today but he has still gone 0-for-23 in his last six games. Stats Of The Day With the season about to come to an end, it’s time to take a look at the playoff picture for the Pirates2, who currently hold the lead in the Wildcard and they still have an outside chance at the division. The Pirates2 trail the Cubs in their division by three games. The teams play on Tuesday, so with a win, they can make up a game there. After that, it gets tricky. The Pirates2 have to play six games over the last four days of the season. They will continue suspended games with both the Rojos(Reds second team) and Orioles2, games from earlier in the month. The Rojos are the worst team in the division, while the Orioles2 are under .500 on the year. While they have a lot of games left in a little time, after the Cubs on Tuesday, the opponent gets much easier. In the Wildcard, they are leading by 1.5 games over the Mets2. The Mets2 are taking on the first place Rangers, then they play two against the Pirates1 team. So the fate of the Pirates2, might just rest in the hands of the other affiliate. With players from both teams eligible to play in the playoffs, the games on Wednesday and Thursday for the Pirates1 are huge games. Some of those players could be making the switch if the other team wins the division or Wildcard.
