Falling Star: Post Combine Top 5 Ranking

Posted February 25, 2013

Now that the NFL Combine is coming to a close, I decided to re-vamp my top 5 prospects for the Eagles. Unfortunately, one of my favorite players in the entire draft (DT Star Lotualelei) has fallen out of the top 5 due to an unknown heart condition and what effect it might have on his career (or life for that matter). While he was my second overall choice in this April's draft, now the priorities have shifted a bit. Currently here is my top 5:

1. OT Luke Joeckel: His draft status is unchanged after this weekends drills. While the Eagles probably won't have a shot at him now that the Chiefs seem to be leaning in acquiring him at the #1 overall pick, he's still our top rated player.

2. G Chance Womack: Thought by many to be the top player in the entire draft, I too am on the bandwagon. While we could still opt for a defensive lineman at this spot (and many think this is high for a guard to be drafted) Chip Kelly has made it clear that the Eagles won't be "conventional" in terms of NFL "thinking" and will select the best player available.

3. DT Shariff Floyd: His stock has rocketed up boards over the weekend, and I think he could be very productive at either the NT or 3-4 five technique (DE). While not the player that a healthy Star Lotualelei would be, he's very similar in terms of value and could bolster the defensive line immediately.

4. OT Eric Fisher: He's the second rated OT next to Luke Joeckel and could prove to be the pick due to Jason Peters health concerns. Even though he's similar in stature and ability to Joeckel, I think the Eagles go with the highest potential if they stay at the #4 spot and take Womack.

5. OLB/DE Dion Jordan: Obviously the Eagles are familiar with all former Orgeon players. But this kid is special in terms of build (6'6) speed (4.53 in the 40 yard dash was the fasted of all DL at the combine) and even though he will require surgery to fix his shoulder, he has a frame that can carry an additional 15-20 lbs and not lose any speed (he's currently 248lbs). Freakish athlete that models his game after Javon Kearse (but can cover WR's in the slot). Yes, he is, indeed a freak.

Stay tuned!
