by Nathan Mendelowitz Buster Posey – Hot Buster Posey had a rough start to the season. Bad hitting, didn’t get his first RBI until the seventh game of the season and didn’t get his first homer until the 17th game. However, he finally has found his rhythm. In Posey’s last six games, he’s batting .400 while slugging .833 with two homers. He’s also making the most of his hits as three of the eight hits he had were extra-base hits. Posey’s overall batting average has risen to .275 and hopefully for the Giants, it will continue to rise. Matt Cain – Not The Giants new ace is having a very rough start to the season. In five game starts, he is 0-2 with an ERA of 6.59. Cain is getting his strikeouts (26) and limiting walks (6) but has given up homers (6) and hits (30). Cain isn’t getting much in run support, but in his entire Giants career that’s been the case and he still found ways to succeed. Right now Cain’s WAR is at -0.7, which is bad news for the Giants. Jerry Blevins – Hot Middle reliever Jerry Blevins has been the most reliable reliever for the A’s so far. Blevins has worked in 11 games for a combined 12.2 innings and has given up only one run and six hits with an ERA of 0.71. That one run Blevins has given was during a blowout loss to Detroit. Blevins has given up only one walk, struck out 15 and has allowed just three extra-base hits. It was a rough road trip for the A’s but Blevins kept them in many of them. Jarrod Parker – Not Jarrod Parker is having his worst start to the season and he probably did not expect this. Parker is 0-4 with an ugly ERA of 8.10 and has only made it to the sixth inning once in his five starts. What’s worse is Parker has given up 21 earned runs so far and 37 hits, 11 of which are extra-base hits. His best start was against the Rays where he lasted 6.1 innings and only gave up one run. However, Parker followed that performance giving up six runs in a blowout loss to the Orioles. For the number two starter for the A’s, this is not what the A’s wanted. Brandon Belt – Hot In a week of redemption for Giants sluggers, Brandon Belt has had a nice rebound week. In Belt’s last six games, he is batting .429 and slugging .714 with one homer three RBIs. Also, that one homer came in the bottom of the ninth with two strikes that tied the game. His role has been coming off the bench this past week but he has made the most of it, going 3-3 while coming off the bench.
