Hurricane Sandy

Posted October 28, 2012

Guys...just wanted to get away from football for a moment. Sandy is well on her way and by the sounds of it could be packing one hell of a punch. To any of my yardbarker friends that share the storm's path with me...be careful, smart and safe and I wish you well!

  • Thanks Spotella. We should be fine but Mayor Nutter was just on and discussing cancellations and precautions people should be taking in Philly and the surrounding area. Makes me worry about my daughter who will be riding this one out in Philadelphia while we sit here about an hour away.

  • I'm pretty sure they closed them up...with most of the shore points being evacuated.

  • According to the governor, this storm will impact about a quarter of PA citizens, so it's likely you see what your daughter sees. Also there are PLENTY of resources here to aid her should the need arise.

Inside city limits power outage would be the chief concern; but if there's a tree outside her window, have her camp out as far away from any possible path of a tree fall.

Outside of that she'll come out good, with an anecdote about how her dad freaked over some wind and rain.
  • I hope that's all it is and she is in an apartment (3rd floor) with no trees outside her windows. Huge windows though which we suggested she stay away from when the winds pick up. I'm sure she will be fine without me but it would be nice to know that I could be in the same building with her in case she needs me. I'll always worry about my kids flip...even if I live to see them reach my age. Thanks for the info though...and I'm glad to see you back.

  • Flip- Mortal lock its gonna rain?
  • So far the storm hasn't done much here! but then again, the wind hasn't really arrived yet! It was nice having the day off work thou
  • Wind is blowing pretty fiercely at times...just sitting here listening to it howl from time to time. Lost power a couple times...mostly off and right back on although we lost it for a little over an hour earlier. No flooding yet and hoping we don't have to deal with any obviously. Watching the news and Jersey and Delaware are getting hammered. My wife said she saw a report that said water has reached some of the casinos in Atlantic City. LBI has water in it's main street...been there when it storms and have seen the streets flooded...can't imagine being there right now.
  • I live in N. Wilmington (DE)
I think our beaches were hammered much worse then we were.. Then again, The Eye of this hurricane is heading straight toward my house! lol

The one thing I will say is because we live in wilmington, we are a bit higher up & therefore the rain is sorta running down the streets away from my house :)
  • I'm about an hour above Philly. Good to see you are doing okay, Zukny. We lost power overnight but it just came back on. Besides a downspout pulling off, a small piece of siding pulling out a little and losing our butterfly bush we made it through fine so far. Not sure what else is out there (more rain heading our way?) but everything seems much calmer this morning. Seeing reports that parts of the Atlantic City boardwalk was torn apart. 17 deaths reported so far...nasty, nasty storm!

  • Thanks again, Spotella. Saw some of the reports...I guess we are in a good spot. We never seem to lose power here...when we do it usually isn't for long. Last night may have been the longest in the 20 years we have been here. I feel horrible about the damage out there but also feel fortunate that as far as I know, my family has made it through unscathed.
  • Im sorry this MIGHT BE??? a little more important than sports....
  • called priorities.....
  • Sometimes we talk smack on here, but for all those on the East Coast, hope you stay safe. I just saw video of Queens NY where I grew up, man it's sobering stuff.
  • It was a crazy night all around. Had to get up this morning to go to work, but all the airports in the NE are still closed. I heard LGA had runways under water. This storm was legit.

  • Now Japan sunny days.

But this hurricane is broadcasting Japanes TV.
    be careful!
  • Lots of damage and loss of power here YM5, but considering what you guys went through with that earthquake, I think we should be thankful that it wasn't worse here.
