The Michigan Wolverines dropped to No. 4 in the AP Poll and No. 5 in the Coaches’ Poll this week, after a heartbreaking loss at Wisconsin. CBS bracketology expert Jerry Palm still has the Wolverines as his top seed overall, though, as of his latest update Monday. You can see Palm’s full bracket here. He kept Michigan as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest, while Indiana grabbed the No. 1 in the East; Duke and Miami rounded out the top-seed lines. Palm explained his rationale for Michigan’s high mark, despite three conference losses: I put Michigan and Indiana at the top of the bracket because they have been the two most consistent teams. Neither has laid an egg nor been lit up. Neither has a bad loss and both are realatively healthy. I took the Wolverines over the Hoosiers for the top spot because they have more good wins, and more away from home. IU beat Michigan, but it was a close enough game at home to be considered indecisive. The Wolverines could solidify Palm’s faith in them by knocking off Michigan State on Tuesday, though that would not be considered a “bad loss”, either. Michigan still faces MSU again at home, plus welcomes Indiana to Crisler to close the regular season. Michigan State, now tied atop the conference with Indiana, has a No. 2 seed in Palm’s South region — where Miami, which beat Michigan State earlier this year, holds the No. 1 line. The Spartans certainly could begin making a case for a No. 1 seed of their own by beating Michigan and moving out in front of their arch-rivals by two games in the Big Ten. Palm has both Michigan and Michigan State opening the tournament in Auburn Hills.
