Jhonny Peralta is back on the diamond after serving his 50-game suspension, but he isn’t returning to the Detroit Tigers lineup yet — if at all. The team hasn’t reached a decision on whether or not to activate the infielder when he becomes eligible to return on Sept. 27 for the Tigers’ final three regular-season games. Peralta is back working out with the team, however, and on Wednesday afternoon he spoke to the media publicly for the first time since being suspended due to his connection with the Biogenesis clinic. “What happened before, I’m angry with myself,” Peralta said. “I don’t know how to explain it, the situation that happened, but I’m kind of mad at myself.” Tigers president Dave Dombrowski has made it clear that Peralta will not be the starting shortstop if he returns to the team for the end of the season and the playoffs, but Peralta remains content about being a part of the team any way he can, and contributing in any way that is needed. “I understand the situation,” h

Jhonny Peralta's Tigers career isn't over quite yet. Tigers president Dave Dombrowski announced Tuesday that Peralta will rejoin the team Wednesday to begin working out. Dombrowski said that no decision has been made about activating him when his suspension ends in the final week of the regular season, but the door is now open for Peralta to take part in the postseason....

"What happened before, I'm angry with myself," Peralta told reporters in Chicago. "I don't know how to explain it, the situation that happened, but I'm kind of mad...

Game 2013.146: Tigers at White Sox

Detroit Tigers: 83-62, 1st Place (6.0 ahead of Cleveland).  Well, if the Tigers are going to insist on playing the feast-or-famine game on offense, we might as well enjoy the feast, right? Great games by Fielder, Martinez, Avila, and Iglesias. Cabrera concerns me: he did hit 3 fairly deep, but he just doesn’t seem to have the power to get it out of the ballpark right now (you...

Stay current with all the roster movement and personnel decisions with the TigsTown Transaction Blog. The Tigers on Tuesday brought Darin Downs back to the big league club, but arguably of more importance, they announced that shortstop Jhonny Peralta will return to the club and begin working out this week.

GIF: Proof that it's basically impossible to pitch to Miggy

Below is a couple of GIFs that align six different Miguel Cabrera home runs on a grid, each one hit on a ball located outside of the strike zone in a different area of the plate. It’s pretty definitive evidence that, as a pitcher, you stand absolutely no chance when Miggy is in the box. [Reddit] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Sanchez helps Tigers edge White Sox 1-0

Anibal Sanchez struck out 10 in a terrific performance, helping the Detroit Tigers top the Chicago White Sox 1-0 on Wednesday night. Sanchez (14-7) allowed five hits and walked four in 7 1-3 innings while lowering his AL-best ERA to 2.50. Joaquin Benoit got three outs for his 18th save in 18 opportunities, completing a five-hitter for Detroit's 11th shutout of the season. Omar...

Detroit Tigers: is Peralta the missing link?

The Detroit Tigers are keeping the Jhonny Peralta fire lit, and for good reason. Peralta risked exiling himself from the organization the moment he cheated back in the spring of 2012. When he was finally caught and suspended for 50 games just after the trade deadline this year, the Tigers had seemingly already moved on. Jose Iglesias was brought in to play shortstop just before the...

Porcello, Fielder Lead Tiger Past White Sox 9-1

Rick Porcello pitched his first career complete game, Prince Fielder homered among his four hits and the Detroit Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 9-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. Alex Avila added four hits and two RBIs as AL Central-leading Detroit's offense finally got rolling against the sloppy White Sox, allowing the Tigers to increase...

Chris Sale thanks higher powers for Cabrera ejection

Your browser does not support iframes. Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera saw his night end almost before it began in a loss to the Chicago White Sox on Monday night after he was ejected in the first inning. Chicago pitcher Chris Sale threw a slider that hit Cabrera on the leg, but home plate umpire […]

Tigers beat White Sox 1-0, cut magic number to 11

At this time of year it doesn’t matter if it was a close game or a rout. A snoozer or absolutely riveting. All that matters is this: Did the Tigers get closer to clinching the American League Central? And when they know that the team closest to them already has lost — as the Cleveland Indians did in a day game to Kansas City 6-2 — the bottom-line question begs even louder...

Royals-Tigers Preview

The Kansas City Royals might not catch the first-place Detroit Tigers in the AL Central, but they remain a postseason contender. Looking to continue their season-long success against Justin Verlander, the surging Royals try for a third consecutive victory overall and against the Tigers on Friday night at Comerica Park. Kansas City (77-69) has not been to the playoffs since winning...

Sanchez pitches Tigers past White Sox, 1-0

There were a lot of people who weren't sold on the Tigers re-signing Anibal Sanchez in the offseason. The critics thought that paying Sanchez 80 million over five years was too much. Those same people are probably rethinking that opinion. Sanchez, 29, won his career-best 14th game and career-best seventh straight decision with a 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox Wednesday...
