James Murphy must have seen that goal Thierry Henry scored in 2000. How else would he have thought to try it in an American college (university) soccer game on Sunday? Murphy, a sophomore forward at the University of Michigan, scored the game’s only goal in his team’s victory over rival Ohio State. The strike was straight out of Henry’s personal highlight reel, and Murphy somehow managed to do in a game what Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chaimberlain couldn’t do in practice. Murphy controlled a pass at the top of the Ohio State area, flicked it up to himself and volleyed it into the top corner of the goal. It was virtually identical to the goal Henry scored for Arsenal against Manchester United in October 2000, which is considered one of the greatest goals in Premier League history. Chances are that Murphy has seen the goal more than once. He was born and raised in England, spent five years in Reading FC’s youth system and played for Ireland at U-16 and U-17 levels. Players with th...

Ohio State Had the Backdoor Cover to End All Backdoor Covers

Evanston, Illinois. Five seconds left. Northwestern down by 4 but covering the 6.5-point spread and holding the ball. Degenerate gambler and Wildcat alum Brent Musburger in the booth giddily shaking and dreaming about what to do with all the money he's about to win on his alma mater plus the points. No way this is getting screwed up. Right? Oof.  We'...

Ohio State’s Buckeye NutHouse Will Get Even More Free McDonald’s If The Team Can Score

As we’ve seen this football season, even schools with excellence athletics programs can struggle to keep students in the stands for an entire game. So it appears that schools may be increasing the incentives that students have to remain tuned in from start to finish. In recent years, Ohio State has given out coupons for free McDonald’s french fries or apple dippers at men’s...

Ohio State Believes You Deserve a Break Today (free food)

Sports are awesome, but it is kind of hard to pay for them if there are no fans in the stands. Yeah, there is money to be made elsewhere, but it certainly helps to have people in the stands to really optimize the revenue potential. Lately it seems that fans are not sticking around as much as schools would like. So how do you keep fans in the stands without scheduling competitive...

Buckeyes assessing their situation after 6 games

Urban Meyer wants his Ohio State Buckeyes to have a constructive week of practice and then enjoy a Saturday without the physical and mental stresses of a game. He does not want to get any phone calls in the middle of the night. ''Some people see a bye week, they go act like a jerk over the weekend,'' he said after Wednesday night's practice. ''Football...

The Arm Chair Quarterback: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly of Northwestern

The Ohio State Buckeyes showed a large amount testicular fortitude in gutting and scrapping their way to a 40-30 victory over Northwestern Saturday night in Evanston. The Buckeye nation showed itself to be lacking in testicular fortitude as the message boards filled up with whining, crying Bucks fans certain that everything we wanted for this team was lost after Northwestern ‘hit...

Wager Wednesday

I'd like to personally thank Ohio State for salvaging our 5-2 record against the spread in Week 6, even if their 10-point victory did come at the expense of Brent Musburger's life savings and the last 5-7 years of his life.  Let's keep the good times rolling as we head into Week 7. AAC SOUTH FLORIDA (+5.5) at UCONN: Well my "no gamling on UConn" moratorium...

The final 15 minutes, however, were marred with controversy as referee Fotis Bazakos made several calls that were puzzling to both teams. Fabian...
