ONE BYRD WE SHOULD JUST LET FLY.

Posted July 07, 2013

THERE'S a story here on YB by one of the compensated bloggers, regarding whether or not the Eagles would be interested in a trade for FS Jairus Byrd if the Bills can't ink him to a long term deal. The thing is, he wants about 9mil a year and is being offered something more like 7mil.

I think it would be a horrible idea.

Bryd is a tremendously talented player no doubt, and under current NFL economics, in the right system 9mil a year wouldn't be overpaying for him. It wouldn't be cheap, but it wouldn't be unlivable either.

My thing is, with the current system the Eagles are said to be running, it is HIGHLY likely that most of the action will take place in AWAY from the FS area of responsibility. If we sucked, and he wasn't piling up stats, fans would grumble about his paycheck, he'd start eyeing the door, and it would look like coming to Philly sandbagged yet another DB who came in a star, caught hell here (Greg Jackson, Asante Samuel, DHB, Nnamdi Asomugha), only to return to prominence  (so far) once they left.

I'm not looking to add another name to the list. If we're going to suck, why overpay, while looking like an NFL dead-end to do it?
