Milwaukee Admirals goaltender, Jeremy Smith has re-signed with the Nashville Predators. The contract is a two-way, one year deal worth $660,000 at the NHL level and $65,000 at the AHL level. Read the press release and thoughts after the jump.

Nashville, Tenn. (July 17, 2012) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Smith to a one-year, two-way contract worth $660,000 at the National Hockey League level and $65,000 at the American Hockey League level.

Smith, 23 (4/13/89), led the AHL in minutes (3283:59), ranked second among AHL netminders in both wins (31) and shutouts (tie, 5), and ranked fourth in goals-against average (2.17) in his second season with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2011-12. The Dearborn, Mich., native was recalled by the Predators on three occasions in 2011-12, and served as backup for the first time in his career on Jan. 7 vs. Carolina.

Nashville's second choice, 54th overall (second round), in the 2007 Entry Draft played parts of four Ontario Hockey League seasons with Plymouth and Niagara, and represented the U.S. at the 2008 World Junior Championships. He was named USA Hockey’s 2007 Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year after appearing in the helping the Plymouth Whalers win the 2007 OHL title and reach the Memorial Cup.

It will be quite interesting and fun to keep up with the Milwaukee Admirals' goaltender situation with Magnus Hellberg coming to the club and re-signing Jeremy Smith. Both are capable NHL players, but Hellberg has more potential.

Shea Weber's leverage will never be higher

These are franchise-determining days for the Nashville Predators and, perhaps, also career-determining ones for captain Shea Weber. He certainly is pondering his future after having former defensive partner Ryan Suter, once one of the three Predators cornerstones, to a 13-year, 98 million contract with Minnesota. In less than a month, Weber will be 27, the same age as Suter. However...

Development Camp Archives – Victor Bartley’s Evolution

Photo Credit: Scott Paulus/Milwaukee Admirals You can call Victor Bartley a lot of things, but a slouch definitely isn’t one of them. When Nashville brought him in last off-season, the move bolstered the depth chart in Milwaukee and added a former defensive standout in the WHL to one of the top coached and top working teams in the AHL. After spending the previous three seasons...

Adam French: Andrei Kostitsyn is a Possibility

It’s during these boring as all hell days of free agency that the grinding gridlock of nothingness makes for an unbearable miasmic manifestation that chokes out the lifeblood of every hockey fan. Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Is Weber Offer Sheet a Wise Move?

Now that the Flyers have signed Shea Weber to a 14-year, $100 million offer sheet, one has to wonder about whether the offer is structured in such a way that the upfront money is such that it would force the Nashville Predators to arrange a trade with Philadelphia. In terms of the $7.1 million cap hit, it would actually be LESS than his cap hit from the 2011-12 season. Regardless...

Shea Weber agrees to fourteen year offer sheet deal from Flyers

Under the cover of night is about the time one would expect an offer sheet deal to go down. No one likes to discuss offer sheets in the NHL. They're often seen as poaching players, tempting them away from their rightful teams. General managers tend to stay away from them because it "paints them in a bad light," despite the fact that it's a perfectly legal and...
