San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres has a track record of laying down some questionable hits and his hit on Los Angeles Kings forward Jarrett Stoll is his latest one.  At first the hit didn’t seem to be that bad, but upon further review it seems as though Torres initial point of contact is with Stoll’s chin.  Torres received two-minutes for charging on the play and Stoll never returned after that shift.  With Torres history the NHL has decided to take a look at this hit and he faces an in person hearing with Brendan Shanahan.  My guess is that despite Torres clean play for most of this year, his past discretions will result in him getting a suspension for a few games. Raffi Torres Smashes Jarret Stoll With Hit That Has Some People Thinking Suspension (Video)

It’s been just a year since Raffi Torres got himself suspended indefinitely (then reduced to 25 games) for a nasty hit on Marian Hossa in the playoffs. Torres has since cleaned up his act, talking about player safety and avoiding the suspension spotlight. That changed Tuesday night, though, when Torres — now with the San Jose Sharks — laid a hit that could draw further punishment...

GM disagrees with Torres suspension

San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson says the organization disagrees with the NHL's decision to suspend forward Raffi Torres for a hit that knocked out Los Angeles forward Jarret Stoll. Wilson said in a statement issued Friday that it is ''abundantly clear'' that Torres' check in Game 1 against Stoll was a clean hockey hit. The NHL's Department...

Raffi Torres suspended the rest of the second round

I said this the other day. --> I don't know... Raffi Torres doesn't leave his feet, he keeps his elbow in and he attempts to hit him in the torso, I think this call is based on reputation. Just for the record, I am not a Sharks fan by any stretch, I think the Chris Kelly elbow on James van Riemsdyk was worse and there wasn't a suspension for that hit. I am not...

NHL Playoff Observations -- Round Two Tuesday

Just a few things that caught my eye: Team captains do not act like children. They do not blame others. They stand up and accept responsibility. Alexander Ovechkin has been looking in that fun house mirror again. Have I ever mentioned how I much I can't stand people like that? Special teams -- will they be the story of the second round? They sure were in...

Snatching Victory from the Jaws of Defeat — and the Sharks by   Jack Weber

Mike Keenan is Metallurg Magnitogorsk's new coach

Iron Mike Keenan has coached for eight NHL teams since he began coaching in the 1984/1985 season. These coaching tenures usually end with someone in tears - a goalie, nine times out of ten. Keenan does not have a reputation as being someone easy to work for, and he's been given power that's incompatible to his personality. St. Louis Blues fans, like myself, despise Keenan...
