In the Super Bowl preview edition of “Football Nation Today,” Alex looks at the biggest news around the NFL:1st Down:*Sports Illustrated reported this week that Ray Lewis used PEDs (deer antler velvet extract) to recover from a severe triceps injury he suffered in October.  For some reason, people are surprised at this.  Apparently, some sports fans still live with their heads under a rock.  There wasn’t a more obvious steroid user than Lewis, and the fact that he took PEDs to recover from injury should be a non-story.*In the Super Bowl preview, Alex says the Ravens and 49ers play similar styles of defense, except the 49ers are younger and faster.  It will be a close game in the first half, but the 49ers will eventually break away.  The Ravens don’t have the speed to keep up with Colin Kaepernick and the spread offense.  The 49ers will be able to generate pressure on Joe Flacco, and move him outside of the pocket where he isn’t comfortable. 2nd Down: Ravens safety Bernard Pollard doesn’t believe the NFL will be around in 30 years because of concussions, and rule changes to protect player safety.  President Obama doesn’t know if he would allow his son to play football.  What is the future of football?Alex says though we may see the end of youth football in well-to-do suburban towns, we will still many kids play it as a means to get out of poverty or less than ideal conditions.  The reward will still far outweigh the risk for many. The NFL has pretty much done all it can do in-terms of implementing rule changes to protect players.  The next step, Alex Says, is making it a waiver sport like UFC.3rd Down: In the “Big Up or Slow Down” segment, Alex debates whether the Pro Bowl should be played next year, if the Patriots should resign Wes Welker and if the Jets should trade Darrelle Revis.4th Down: In the “Reimer Rant,” Alex tells you he is sick of hearing about the “Harbrobowl,” or whatever you dorks are calling it.Email Alex at areimer@bu.edu, and follow him on Twitter @AlexReimer1.  Thanks for listening throughout the season, and enjoy the game on Sunday!
