I'm not going to pretend I have the slightest clue who this guy is, or that I've ever heard of Tarleton State. I'm just going to count on the Saints' ability to find talent in the smallest of schools with Junior Galette (Spellman), Jermon Bushrod (Towson), Marques Colston (Hofstra), Akiem Hicks (Regina) etc... Rufus Johnson did have 10 sacks in 9 games against bad competition last year so I guess that's worth something. He's 6'5", 272lbs, so safe to say he measures very well for a 3-4 end. The only site that has a write up on him is NFLdraftscout.com With this pick the Saints are done with their draft picks unless they make a trade into the 7th round, so they'll start recruiting remaining rookies in hopes they go undrafted.

Saints sign 13 rookie free agents

One of the most underrated post draft activities is the chase for undrafted free agents. Teams can find diamonds in the rough by combing though their draft boards and finding out who is left. According to NewOrleansSaints.com, in the everlasting quest for talent, the Saints have signed 13 rookie free agents.   West Virginia running back Shawne Alston Illinois defensive...

Saints Nation: Saints Trade Chris Ivory to Jets, Trade up in Draft for John Jenkins

That was a crazy scenario of events that just happened. The Saints were able to milk out a 4th round draft pick out of the Jets for Chris Ivory, but they then used that pick and coupled it with their own 4th round pick to move up in the third round and draft nose tackle John Jenkins out of Georgia. Wow. Jenkins is a big big man in the 350 pound range, and as much as you hear me talk...

Saints Nation: Time for Saints to Start Anew at Safety

I've been done with the Malcolm Jenkins/Roman Harper back end experiment for a while and I've made no secret of this. I blame them as much as anyone for how pathetically horrible the Saints were on defense last year. Further, I blame those two players most specifically for the last two postseason exits. Of 88 qualifying graded safeties last year on Pro Football Focus, Harper...

Vaccaro To Saints Analysis

Projected as the top safety all through the process by analysts and coaches alike, Kenny Vaccaro was unsurprisingly the first safety off the board when the New Orleans Saints selected him 15th overall.

Saints Nation: Presenting the 2013 New Orleans Saints Draft Class

Another year of drafting is in the books and here is the draft class the Saints have added to their roster this season. Overall, I just want to say that the Saints killed this draft. Of course I'll reserve full judgement until we see how these players develop, but the goal of the exercise is always to improve competition and your overall roster and I feel the Saints absolutely...

Saints Nation: Post Draft Thoughts

I went 1-5 in my picks with the Saints getting Terron Armstead, OT from Arkansas Pine-Bluff, so at least I was able to predict one correctly before the draft. While we are on Armstead, I like the pick for where the Saints got him in the third round. He gives us a highly athletic left tackle that may or may not start in the first year but will be there when we need him to be, and...

St Paul Saints to hold umpireless exhibition game

The St Paul Saints of the American Association indy league are at it again. The Saints have been known for goofy promotions for years, and on May 11th against the Gary SouthShore RailCats, they're going to crank things up to another level and play without umpires. Balls and strikes will be called from behind the mound by a judge, complete with a robe and a gavel that he&...

St. Paul Saints will play an umpireless game

The St. Paul Saints have prided themselves on doing some of the wackiest promotions in the minor leagues. Their next promotion will probably wind up as the longest game played that wasn't an extra inning affair. The Saints will play an exhibition game against the  Gary SouthShore Railcats. The catch to this game is that it will feature no umpires. That's right, they&...

Vaccaro Goes 15th To Saints

Kenny Vaccaro was selected 15th by the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night, making him the 16th first-round pick in Mack Brown's tenure at Texas.

Saints select DE Rufus Johnson in 6th round

The New Orleans Saints selected small-school defensive end Rufus Johnson with their sixth-round pick in the NFL draft. The 6-foot-5, 272-pound Johnson played at Division II Tarleton State in Texas. Last season, he had 50 tackles, including 17.5 tackles for losses, 10 of them sacks. He was named the Lone Star Conference defensive lineman of the year. With his selection on Saturday...

Jets acquire RB Ivory from Saints for 4th-rounder

The New York Jets have acquired running back Chris Ivory from the New Orleans Saints for a fourth-round draft pick. The Jets were rumored for weeks to be in the mix for Ivory, even after they signed versatile Mike Goodson as a free agent. New York now has Ivory, Goodson, Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight in their backfield. Ivory was undrafted out of Tiffin in 2010 and wound up leading...

Jets Trade for New Orleans RB Chris Ivory

It's Official. The New York Jets have parted with a 4th round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, in exchange for Saints RB Chris Ivory. Ivory had been subject to much trade speculation, as he has shown much talent and promise in limited 'go's' in the Saints offense. With such a crowded backfield with Pierre Thomas, among others, the Saints were willing to deal the...

AP source: Jets, Ivory agree to 3-year deal

A person familiar with the situation says the New York Jets and newly acquired running back Chris Ivory have agreed in principle to a three-year, $10 million deal. The deal Saturday comes after the Jets traded a fourth-round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints on Friday night. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't announced...

New York Jets Trade For Chris Ivory

The New York Jets completed a long rumored trade today, securing New Orleans Saints running back Chris Ivory for a fourth round pick from the New Orleans Saints. Ivory has averaged 5.1 yards per carry throughout his career, with his best season coming in 2010 when he had 137 carries for 716 yards with 5 touchdowns. An immensely physical runner with big play capability, Ivory immediately...
