Found July 29, 2013 on NY Rangers Blog:
Jim Cerny at Blueshirts United recently interviewed Marc Staal, and while he did not specifically mention the eye injury that forced him to miss the second half of last season and all but one game in the playoffs, the Rangers defenseman said he's 100% healthy this summer. Here's an excerpt from Cerny's report... "Staal, who has called this “one of the more normal summers recently” since he is feeling completely healthy and not dealing with concussion symptoms or a broken foot like the past two off-seasons, is training diligently every day to prepare for his first camp under the team’s new head coach Alain Vigneault. He was back on the ice and skating two weeks ago, already." Staal adds that in a few weeks he'll be heading to Team Canada’s Olympic camp and then on to New York when Staal says he's completely healthy, does that mean his eye as well? Sort of confusion since the eye isn't directly mentioned. ...i guess it&...

How Pouliot and Zuccarello can fit together

Pouliot and Zuccarello are not mutually exclusive. (Richard Wolowicz/Getty Images). When the Rangers signed Benoit Pouliot to his one-year contract, there were some that suggested that Mats Zuccarello would be sent packing (Larry Brooks started this one). It was a thought process I understood, but was a bit puzzled by. The Rangers currently have Richards, Nash, Callahan, Stepan,...

Johnson An Upgrade As 7th/8th Defender

The most common reaction from Rangers fans on the heels of the club’s signing of UFA defenseman Aaron Johnson was probably, “Aaron who?”  Certainly no fist bumps or high fives were exchanged when the club announced that addition. The 30-year-old rearguard comes to the Blue Shirts with a modest NHL track record (291 GP, 17 [...]

Rangers, Zuccarello avoid arbitration, agree to deal

Per Darren Dreger, he Rangers and Mats Zuccarello avoided their arbitration hearing, and have agreed on a one-year, $1.15 million contract. Zuccarello and the Rangers were set to go to arbitration tomorrow. The $1.15 million for Zuccarello represents a raise, but not as large of a raise as expected. Many, myself included, assumed he would get in the $1.5 million range. The extra...

Audio: Callahan Talks Upcoming Season, Work Ethic & More

Last week, Ryan Callahan held an autograph signing session at Legends Gallery in Chatham N.J. One of the Rangers fans in attendance was TheNYRBlog reader Harrison Malkin, who is a high school student reporter, broadcaster, and journalist currently working for, NBA Insights and NBA 24/7. Harrison was able to ask Callahan a couple of questions during the signing...

Callahan preparing for delayed start to season

New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan told his rehab from shoulder surgery is on schedule but that also means he doesn't plan on doing much in training camp. Callahan had the operation done in late May. "As the schedule goes it's going to dip into training camp and it's possible it could dip into the regular season too" Callahan said. "The biggest...

Travis Yost: How Did the NHL and SABH Fail Derek Boogaard?

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- Yesterday, after obtaining some of the early pleadings and speaking with a handful of individuals privy to the details of the matter at hand, I outlined the laundry-list of prescriptions provided to Derek Boogaard during his playing days with the Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers. Right until the very day, the National Hockey League ...

Best post-lockout Ranger: Round 1, Martin Straka (2) vs. Wojtek Wolski (15)

Yesterday we saw #7 Michal Rozsival take out #10 Matt Cullen. Today’s matchup is #2 Martin Straka vs. #15 Wojtek Wolski: Martin Straka (acquired –...

Travis Yost: Boogaard's Prescription Records are Insane

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- I managed to obtain some information on various prescriptions given to Minnesota Wild enforcer Derek Boogaard prior to his tragic death in May of 2011. The Minnesota Wild's solution to treating enforcer pain was more or less to juice him to the gills following any sort of injury. Sometimes, it's unclear even if one existed. One...

The New York Rangers have avoided arbitration with forward Mats Zuccarello, signing the Norwegian forward to a one-year, $1.15 million contract. In the summer of 2010, he was signed as a free agent by the Rangers to a two-year entry-level contract. Zuccarello played in 15 games for the Rangers last season and totaled three goals and eight points, as well as adding seven [...]

A tale of two coaches: Looking at John Tortorella

Torts & Players It’s hard to know which coach Vancouver is getting with the hiring of Torts. Will he be the coach who led the Tampa Bay Lightning to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2004 or the one who didn’t achieve the desired effect on a contending roster for just over four years with the New York Rangers, or otherwise? To start, I think it was important that Canucks’ management...

"Lambo" Open Thread: 7/29/13

If you've been to enough Ranger games, or if you're just a stalker, you've probably seen Henrik Lundqvist's Lamborghini Gallardo around the streets of Manhattan. Lundqvist's car recently went through some upgrades as shown on Performance Industries Facebook page.
