The Eagles Have A Big One Looming With A Rested Desperate Team.

Posted October 02, 2012

The Eagles pending game with the Steelers is quite frankly bigger for the Steelers than it is for the Birds. The Steelers are 1-3 coming off a bye week and are pretty much in a big hole. 1-4 Could all but ensure them out of the playoff picture. The Eagles are coming off an emotional struggle with their most hated rival sending them home with a loss. With the Cowboys losing last night they now have the relief of a one game lead in the division. This pending game kind of has the feel of a possible letdown game for the birds if they aren't careful. The defense when they rush Big Ben will have to make sure they get him down. Mike Vick will have t make sure he knows where Troy Polamalu is at all times. The coaches will need to continue to run the football even if the Steelers are shutting it down early if they want to use their playaction packages.  Mike Vick needs to get the ball in his playmakers hands and let them do the work. It's a daunting task for the Eagles, but it wont be a major problem if they come up short in this one. I'm not ready to make a prediction for this game, but if the Eagles can beat the Ravens and the Giants, then they should be able to beat the Steelers too especially if they start playing like they are capable of playing.

  • I agree, but were are talking about Andy and Marty here. Actually it's not just them. It's an NFL epidemic. The Cowboys threw the ball way too much last night and so did the Giants against the Eagles. The running game can't find a rhythm if coaches fail to use it.

  • I feel like this will be a tough game for the Eagles. The Steelers are like a trapped wounded animal. The Eagles are feeling good right now. I can see a future letdown. I hope I'm wrong though.
  • Personally I think this game has the feeling of trap written all over it. Hearing about McCoy having a little twinge in the knee is enough for Andy and Marty to get all pass happy again. The emotion drain from beating the Giants, coupled with the rested desperation of the Steelers could mean a long day for the Eagles, but I think if they do lose this one they will win the next two.
  • mortal lock the Boys wont get embarrass this week. I'll even wager those two damm cookies on that..maybe!

  • Are the Cowboys on a bye week or something?
  • Mendenhall may make his season debut against a defense that isn't very generous on the ground.

Add to that the fact that Ben Rapethisgirlhere likes to hold the ball as long as Vick does, and I can imagine us going to 4-1.

  • Talent wise I think we have them beat, but I get this feeling they are going to come out firing on all cylinders. We can't win them all and like I wrote before even if we do lose this one I think we win the next two against the Lions and the Falcons to go 5-2.
  • I know Reid's undefeated after BYEs, but that Falcons team is legit. They too will be coming off a BYE. I think Reid's undefeated post BYE week record is really gonna be put to the test this year. That said, it would be a real feather in the cap to hand Atlanta their first loss.
  • I'm not discounting the Falcons. I know they are legit, but so is Reid's bye week record. The Falcons are going to be so far up in the division by that point I doubt the game will mean much to them. That's is unless the Raiders find a way to ruin their spirits into the bye. By the way I'm not discounting the Lions either. They will be coming off a bye after taking one on the chin against the Vikings. They are going to be one pissed team looking to stay in the playoff hunt. The Lions have one of the worst kick return defenses in the league right now. Too bad our special teams isn't good enough to exploit that.
  • Now see the Falcons scare me. They have a "WHATEVER IT TAKES" all caps mindset right now. That 50 yard heave that Matt Ryan threw from his own endzone? You don't even ATTEMPT that if you think you can make a mistake. The Falcons are playing like God himself has told them they can do no wrong. When a team starts swaggering THAT much the only thing that can make them fall is if they look down.

This is where I see the EAGLES being by years end, BTW.
  • Can't say that I'm afraid of the Falcons, but I'm not
disregarding them. I explained why I think we should
defeat them below. I also am not overlooking the
Lions either who have one of the best interior defensive
lines in football. Dallas Reynolds is going to have his
hands full. Make no mistake about it. The Eagles will
have their hands full in nearly every game for the rest
    of this season.
  • I for one am worried James Harrison is a GROWN @SS MAN and our line is suspect
  • Well our D-line was suspect against the Giants too and they only got one sack. Vick's going to be going up against one of the best D-Coordinators ever so he better be ready to make good reads. You know they will be coming.
  • " guns , guns, everybody got guns"- Boardwalk Empire
  • I haven't watched that one yet. How is that show?
  • great
  • excellent
  • Cool I'll give it a shot then.
  • I get why people are concerned with the Falcons. I am too, but I don't think it's ever wise to bet against Andy Reid after a regular season bye. The Falcons before they even face the Eagles will most likely be 6-0 and ripe for a loss. I think the Eagles match up well with the Falcons. The Eagles have the size and speed at the corners to cover the Falcons big receivers. The Eagles are playing the run well this season. The Eagles also finally have some linebackers capable of covering the tight end so I don't expect Tony G to own us this season like he did last season. Matty Ice is mobile, but he's the kind of pocket passer the defense can get a hold of. By the time the Eagles face the Falcons they might have that division all but won. The Falcons historically are not as good away as they are at home. There's a little bit of a revenge factor here too as the Falcons game could be looked at as the beginning of the Eagles swan dive last season. Mike Vick wants to still prove he can get it done against his old team. This game is more than 3 weeks away. They still have to beat two other teams to get here.

  • Well thanks for the correction. That is true, but it doesn't change my position. 1-3 is still a huge hole. Good to see you're surviving over there in the desert.

  • In any case thanks for keeping our freedoms most of us take for granted safe.
  • some one said line is suspect--YOU ARE RIGHT,with harrison back, with woodley on the other side,SCARY FOR VICK,run the ball, with shady, because polamula will be blitzng all day long, with offensive line, vick can be carried off the field--barnone ---eagles played two good defense's in giants and ravens,it's all on m vick reading defense correctly.
  • checkmate---vick fumble again----should have won game in first half---until he starts playing football 2010,no dog in him since washington redskins game beast mode----3 step drop--read release andy reid---simple----not for eagles---best back in league--refuse to run him!!!!
  • I don't get why he didn't go to McCoy especially knowing Vick had already fumbled. Why do you not give the ball to a guy who rushed for 17 touchdowns last season? Just dumb.
  • Seeing the Steelers lose to the Titans is like a kick to the gut of the Eagles. The only saving grace is the fact this loss went to an AFC team so in the grand scheme things the loss is bad, but as long as the continue to win the NFC games they should be fine.
