It’s legit. In the short term; keep on feeling good. In fact, take the quotes off the title of this post. Harvard making the NCAA basketball tournament for the first time in 60 some odd years is ******* awesome.

Though, if there’s one thing the Jeremy Lin story has taught me, it’s that we don’t need to root for Harvard guys. They are going to be OK regardless. Yes, that includes their hoops team. Maybe the vast majority won’t be NBA players. However, they will find a job in the NBA corporate office, or something. I’m not concerned for their well-being.

Still, Harvard, in the basketball arena, is a “little guy.” It’s fun to root for those types of teams come March. Maybe a run in the tourney by an Ivy League team wouldn’t be quite the same as previous runs by Gonzaga, Butler, Virginia Commonwelth or George Mason.

That said, one of the best parts of the above teams March runs is how the universities were able to keep their head coaches in place. Of course, this bliss can often only last so long.

Jim Larranaga, George Mason’s coach during their improbable 2004 Final Four run, left this past off-season for Miami. It’s bound to happen to non-BCS schools. And, yes, in this case Larranaga took is talents to South Beach.

How long until Harvard’s Tommy Amaker is getting major BCS offers? I’d say the conversations started sometime this past fall. It’s happening, Crimson fans. The thoughts of money and power must be in Amaker’s head, or at least his agent’s head.

And although Amaker went to Duke (the Ivy League equivalent of the South — if you didn’t know), he has no loyalty to Harvard or the Ivy League in general.  In fact, the Ivy League was what Amaker was relegated to after failing in Ann Arbor. Amaker leaving may be inevitable.

It’s poetry, actually. Instead of the Ivy Leaguers doing the corporate raiding, soon enough it will be Harvard getting raided.

Maybe this is years away. But here’s a scenario if Amaker’s success continues. Maybe Amaker stays in Cambridge until Coack K is done in a handful of years. How hard (see: impossible) would it be for him to turn down that job?

Amaker will be on the first thing smoking down to Durham. Unfortunately the T via Cambridge doesn’t go that far south.

Duke stealing from Harvard is like Robin Hood giving to the rich — what’s the point? So, come on, Mississippi State!

In the idea of creating that “poetry” — I’m hoping it’s a state university, in a major BCS conference that steals Amaker away. Yes, Ivy Leaguers, a PUBLIC school. Ewwww.
