Found June 28, 2013 on MLB Injury News:
PLAYERS: Anibal Sanchez
TEAMS: Detroit Tigers
July 1st is turning out to be an overly optimistic return date for Detroit Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez, but it may not take the injured starter too much longer to get back in the rotation. According to Jason Beck of MLB.com, Sanchez threw around 40 pitches in a simulated game on Thursday morning and is due to make a rehab start for Class A Lakeland on Monday. The 29-year-old sounded confident that his shoulder strain was no longer a problem. "Everything's normal, everything's back on track," Sanchez said, "so I think I just need to wait for the process. I threw like three innings today, so I'm probably going to have another start for five innings, 60 pitches, something like that. After that, we see for [coming] back with the team." Manager Jim Leyland did not confirm the rehab start, saying they would wait and see how the right-hander feels on Friday before deciding how to proceed. Sanchez is eligible to come off the DL on Monday but it's clear that won't happen, so Jose Alvarez will start in Toronto, having made each of Sanchez' previous two starts. Sanchez went on the DL after being pulled early from his June 15th start. He has had shoulder problems previously in his career, including surgery to repair his torn labrum back in 2007. This DL trip seems to have been largely precautionary to ensure that a more serious injury did not occur. Sanchez' velocity will be worth monitoring when he returns to see if the shoulder is still affecting his performance. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Prince Fielder’s home run looks to take down Tropicana catwalk (VIDEO)

Tigers slugger Prince Fielder hit a home run Friday on a 1-0 count that probably would be well on it’s way to Cuba if it wasn’t for that dump of a stadium in Tampa. In fact, Prince’s homer looked to take down Tropicana as it bounced off the the right field catwalk to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead in the 8th inning. Kinda reminds you of this home run his dad hit years ago at County...

Tigers’ Don Kelly’s bare ass and junk caught on camera

Detroit Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson was doing an interview and being asked to preview the Tigers series against the Tampa Bay Rays and apparently no one took notice of what was going on in the background.  Don Kelly was taking off his towel and getting ready to get dressed and the camera picked up his bare ass and penis on camera.  I’m sure this won’t be on YouTube...

Tigers recall Bruce Rondon

DETROIT Bruce Rondon is back, but what are the implications? The Detroit Tigers announced the recall of the pitcher they hope will be their closer of the future Friday afternoon. Detroit opens a three-game series tonight with the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla. How Rondon, 22, fits into the bullpen at this time will correlate directly with how well he performs. Rondon must...

Tigers recall reliever Bruce Rondon from Triple-A

The Detroit Tigers have recalled reliever Bruce Rondon from Triple-A Toledo. The move was announced before Friday night's game at Tampa Bay. Right-hander Evan Reed was optioned to Toledo. Rondon went 1-1 with 14 saves in 30 games with Toledo. ''He's not being brought back as a closer,'' Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. ''Sixth, seventh, sometimes...

Leyland and Bullpens

I’ve never met Jim Leyland personally. I’m sure he’s a swell guy (perhaps Tom in Lakeland can give us a few anecdotes). For the most part, I like what he does with the team. But I think he’s wrong about the bullpen. Can you name a single reliever from the Tigers’ system that’s seen some kind of lasting success in a Tigers uniform? Our best relievers in recent history...

Max Scherzer Records 9 Ks To Earn 12th Victory

Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Max Scherzer recorded his 12th victory of the season Friday night, as he struck out nine batters and led the Tigers to a 6-3 victory in Tampa Bay. In 16 starts Scherzer has been impressive boasting 131 strikeouts/25 walks and a 3.10 ERA. Obviously, this guy will be headed to New York next month for the midsummer classic.       Follow Sean on Twitter/FB...

Prince Fielder’s Monster Home Run Nails Tropicana Catwalk

Prince Fielder launched a home run an estimated 430-feet or so, but no one will ever know because the pesky catwalk at Tropicana Field got in the way. The moon shot came off of a Cesar Ramos pitch in the eighth inning and could easily be the longest we have seen this year. Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Miguel Cabrera's outburst befuddles victorious Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. There seemed to be heated words from the Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera toward the Tampa Bay Rays dugout Saturday, but there are few answers as to why. Cabrera, who went 1 for 4, struck out on five pitches against reliever Fernando Rodney in the 10th inning of the Rays 4-3 victory over the Tigers at Tropicana Field. After the sequence, Cabrera appeared to jaw...

Miguel Cabrera’s Best Season Yet

Last year, we were pro-Mike Trout. The AL MVP debate pitted the Triple Crown against overall performance, and we came down on the side of evaluating players by things other than batting average, home runs, and runs batted in. Unfortunately, being pro-Mike Trout meant that we were perceived to be inherently anti-Miguel Cabrera. It’s not that we had anything against Cabrera, but...

American League Central: Time to Concede to Detroit at Trade Deadline

Entering the 2013 season, the defending American League champion Tigers were on the short list of World Series contenders again. While the Angels added the big piece (Josh Hamilton) and the Blue Jays made the most noise, it’s the Detroit Tigers who entered the winter closest to World Championship caliber.Basically halfway through the season Detroit is doing exactly what it has...

Tigers-Rays Preview

Looking to avoid matching their longest losing streak of the season, the Detroit Tigers appear to be sending the right pitcher to the mound. Max Scherzer will try to become the majors' first 12-game winner and snap Detroit's three-game skid Friday night in the opener of a three-game road series against the Tampa Bay Rays. With a 3-1, 10-inning loss to the Angels on Thursday...

Scherzer becomes first Tiger to start 12-0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Major league wins leader Max Scherzer became the first starting pitcher to win 12 consecutive decisions to begin a season in 27 years, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-3 behind a pair of home runs from Miguel Cabrera on Friday night. Scherzer (12-0) allowed three runs, four hits, walked one and struck out nine in seven innings to become...

Tigers swept by Angels

DETROIT (AP) -- Albert Pujols hit a tiebreaking double in the 10th inning and the Los Angeles Angels beat Detroit 3-1 on Thursday for their ninth straight victory over the Tigers. Mike Trout had four hits and was in the middle of the decisive rally for the Angels, who completed a three-game sweep. Jered Weaver pitched seven strong innings in a tight duel with Detroit right-hander...
