Value pick with Barkley. No QB is safe in Philly

Posted April 27, 2013

Im intrigued by this pick and Ive gone back and watched some Barkey tape.   The guy really moves like a pro pocket passer.  The only downside is his arm strength and the shoulder injury probably played a part in his freefall.  But, he is well spoken and sounds like a leader.  He comes with a very solid resume of QB action.   I wouldnt be suprised to see Vick start this year and next year Barkley and Foles in a training camp war.   if Vick turns around then i think Barkley will end up the #2.   This was a very intelligent dynamic move by Eagles.  Sometimes they suprise me.  Good draft so far.

  • I've been telling you guys for months no QB is safe! Whoever it is they better bring it or they will be gone. I don't care who wins the job as long as they have earned it. I could see Barkley being the guy in a few years if he develops well though.
  • Sends sharp statement to Vick that you better be spectacular if you want to be an eagle beyond this year and it lets Foles know that we wont hand you the job in the future . its a messagethat the front office will not stand pat with mediocre play from this position. It tells Vick if you lose job you lose it permanently.
  • Everything you wrote is true and I have to say I love it! I'm glad whoever wins the job has to earn it. I will take it a step further and say in Chip Kelly's eyes no one in this 4-12 roster should feel they will have their job if they don't come this training camp ready to compete. Competition makes the roster better as a whole. Matt Barkley has already said he's coming into camp to compete and he feels like its his job to lose. These boys better bring their A game!
