Last week, Xavier Henry quickly became a member of the Los Angeles Lakers - one minute the purple and gold reportedly had interest in him and the next he signed on the dotted line. Now he’s officially a member of the Lakeshow, Henry told Lakers.com that he’s looking forward to learning from Kobe Bryant on a day-to-day basis. The guard also hopes to draw a lot of fouls and get to the line – a forte of his, he says – and will look to contribute on the defensive end, too: Trevor Wong: Was there there was anything specifically that attracted you to come to Los Angeles? Xavier Henry: During the free agent process, I was working hard and when I started to get feedback from teams, we thought (the Lakers) was a good fit for me. When the deal got done, I was excited. There’s not one thing you can say wrong about the Lakers – their history, the players, the coach, they have one of the greats in Kobe (Bryant) that you can learn from every single day. There’s so much with the Lakers to help further yourself and help the team. I’m coming in trying to make a name for myself, and to help the team. TW: For those people that don’t know you as well, what is your game all about and what can you bring to the table? Henry: I shoot the ball pretty well, but one thing I’ve always been able to do is get to the line and get fouled. One thing I pride myself on is making sure nobody can stay in front of me when I get to the basket. I’m just trying to show everybody my overall game, play defense and let them know what they can expect what I can bring to the team. While good shooting and earning foul shots would be welcomed by the team, it’s Henry’s performance on the defensive end that could earn him serious minutes. On paper, the Lakers have a lot of players who can fill it up offensively, so they’re obviously also going to need guys who can contribute defensively, too. At just 22-year-old, Henry still has time to blossom and the Lakers would love for him to do so while he’s wearing their uniform. .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } @media(min-width: 500px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } } @media(min-width: 800px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 336px; height: 280px; } }
