With all the drama that has been surrounding New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez you might wonder how the Yankees front office is dealing with it. Last month the Miami New Times ran an report on Rodriquez saying that he purchased human growth hormone and other performance-enhancing drugs in the past from a company called Biogenesis of America. The business was located in Florida that near one of Rodriguez’s homes. Yesterday Hal Steinbrenner voiced his thoughts on Alex. Steinbrenner “We will cooperate with MLB in any way we can, any way we’re asked to. But other than that, there’s not much to say. I don’t know any more than you do.” Hal also said that it was “a concern, but it’s out of our hands.” Alex Rodriguez said that he used PEDs from 2001-2003, but said that he has not used any of the drugs since. During this offseason the Yankees were concerned about A-Rod’s availability to play this year since he was going to have hip surgery. This procedure would keep him off the field for at least half the season. To help ease their anxiety the Yankees signed former Red Sox and White Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis to play at A-Rod’s position. Hal Steinbrenner commented on the acquisition of Kevin saying, “I’ve always liked Kevin. He always seemed like a good leader, a hard worker and a very enthusiastic, loves the game kind of guy. And that’s the kind of guy we want.” Whether or not the Yankees keep Alex on the team, trade him, or let him go Hal is happy with getting Youkilis and signing other key veterans to the team. When asked about the Yankees chances this season Hal replied, “We’ve got a lot of good veterans on the team, and we’ve got some good young players as well. That’s always the mix that I want to shoot for. I like our team, but where we end up in October, anybody’s guess.”
