For the first time in his 23-year boxing career, Bernard Hopkins lost a fight when he couldn't get off the canvas. The way Hopkins got to the canvas Saturday night will be debated long after he finally retires. Chad Dawson lifted the leaning Hopkins off his feet and shrugged him roughly to the ground late in the second round, leaving Hopkins with a separated joint in his left shoulder. Fans feel cheated. Dawson is furious. Hopkins sees cheating and conspiracy. Yep, just another normal night at the fights. Dawson's new light heavyweight title belt might as well have a huge asterisk instead of the WBC logo, but Dawson has no intention of giving a rematch to Hopkins for a fight that wasn't hugely anticipated the first time.
