The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced the signing of free-agent RB Avon Cobourne on Wednesday, the first day of CFL free agency.
Cobourne spent the past three seasons with the Montreal Alouettes and was named the Grey Cup MVP in the teams 2009 championship season.
The hard nosed Cobourne became the Alouettes’ starting running back in 2008, finishing the season with 1,557 all-purpose yards and was named a CFL East Division all-star. The following season, he rushed for 1,214 yards and 13 touchdowns, culminating in CFL All-Star recognition and being named the MVP of the 2009 Grey Cup.
Last season, Cobourne had 956 yards rushing and over 550 yards receiving in 15 games.
The Tabbies also added free-agent DB Daniel Francis on Wednesday.
Francis spent the last two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 2010, the Louisiana State product make 53 defensive tackles, 10 special teams tackles, one quarterback sack, one tackle for a loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
