Send to KindleAnthony Grant was dealt a major blow to next year’s SEC/NCAA hopes when Trevor Lacey decided to transfer in April.  With virtually his entire squad returning, the Crimson Tide would have been an SEC threat and a certainty to make it to the NCAA Tournament.  Lacey, the team’s second leading scorer and a key three-point man, is said to have been steered out of Tuscaloosa by his parents, though no concrete reason has been given. Grant had recruited for improving his post game in signing 6-8, 200-lb. Shannon Hale of Christ School in Arden, N.C. and 6-9, 220-lb. power forward Jimmie Taylor, an in-state product.  Hale has nice length and is good at finishing around the basket.  He also is a good shot blocker that could help Alabama inside immediately on defense. Anthony Grant hopes he has found some complementary pieces for Nick Jacobs in the post. (Photo Courtesy: University of Alabama Athletic Media Relations) Rivals.com and ESPN.com had rated Hale as a 4-star power forward while averaging 17.1 ppg., and 6.0 rpg. at Christ School. Taylor, meanwhile, was rated ninth at his position by ESPN.com and was the number one prospect in the state of Alabama.  He is another shot blocker who was recruited by nearly everyone in the mid-south as Kentucky, Louisville, Vandy, and Tennessee all had a hand in the fray.  He is also adept to the transition game on both ends of the floor. Taylor, a 2013 mcDonald’s All-American nominee, led Greensboro (Ala.) High School to the 2011 3A State Championship and was named the MVP of the title run. Barton County CC guard Algie Key was Grant’s lone perimeter signee.  Key averaged 17.6 ppg., 6.6 rpg., and 4.2 apg. for Barton last season as he was a JUCO All-American.  He finished fourth among the school’s all-time leading scorers with 1,214 points and fourth in assists as well with 315.  Key is extremely adept in getting to the basket and setting up teammates off the dribble-drive. Grant also acquired a pair of transfers in Ricky Tarrant from Tulane and Michael Kessens of Longwood.  Both players will sit out the 2013-14 season and be ready to go a year from now. * * * Top story photo courtesy of Alabama Athletics Photography     Related Posts:High Five: Intangibles enable Bama to thwart TennesseeMessage receivedReleford leads dangerous Alabama team looking to make noiseCommodores ink two talented posts; lose Johnson for seasonAround the SEC: Caldwell-Pope leading Bulldogs’ surge
