Billy Baron is eligible right away at Canisius after transferring from Rhode Island in the summer
According to Shawn Stepner of WKBW in Buffalo, Canisius guard Billy Baron has received a waiver from the NCAA, making him eligible to play during the 2012/13 year after transferring from Rhode Island during the summer.
Billy’s dad, Jim Baron was named head coach at Canisius during the offseason after being fired by Rhode Island in March.
Under the waiver Billy received, he was deemed eligible since he was transferring for reasons related to his father’s firing at Rhode Island.
Trey Ziegler, a guard at Central Michigan received the same waiver this offseason when his father was fired at Central Michigan. Ziegler transferred to Pittsburgh shortly after and was deemed eligible right away as well.
The Golden Griffs are the third team that Billy Baron has played for since entering college in 2010.
Baron started his career at Virginia before transferring to join his dad at Rhode Island midway through his freshman year.
