Billy Baron and Harold Washington combined for 38 points as Canisius opened MAAC play with a win on Friday night, taking down Fairfield 67-55. The contest was close throughout with Canisius leading most of the way. The Griffs shot just under 49% from the field while shutting down the Stags offense, holding them below 40% shooting. On the night, Canisius had no trouble getting to the charity stripe, connecting on 16-21 free throws. At the same time, Fairfield struggled from the line, hitting on only 6-13 attempts as the free throw disparity was one of the keys that led to the Griffs pulling out the win. Both Baron and Washington finished with an identical 19 points, five rebounds, and one assist on the night. With the win, Canisius improves to 5-1, matching their win total from last year. The Griffs return to action Sunday when they take on Marist.   Canisius Record: 5-1 (1-0) Next Game: Sunday at Marist Key Player: Harold Washington & Billy Baron: (Both had 19 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist) Key Stat: Canisius shot 16-21 behind the charity stripe Attendance: 2,684 The post Canisius Earns First MAAC Win, Takes Down Fairfield appeared first on Queen City Sports.
