Entering their matchup vs. Iona on Friday night, Canisius knew that they would have to put forth their best effort in order to compete with the Gaels. Iona came into the game with a four game winning streak and as the preseason MAAC favorites trying not to overlook a young Griffs squad. Canisius came out ready to play, trailing by only one at the half, but ran out of gas late as they fell to Iona 69-57. The Griffs did a great job of limiting Iona star forward Michael Glover, limiting him to only 6 points. Glover had entered Friday’s game averaging over 21 points per game. Unfortunately for the Griffs, they couldn’t stop Jermel Jenkins. With Glover struggling, Jenkins stepped his game up for the Gaels coming off the bench to score 17 points. For the Griffs, Harold Washington had a great game despite the loss as he led them in scoring with 22 points.
