Today at 5 pm, that's right 5 pm, Cincinnati plays host to North Carolina State as part as the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon. This game is pretty much the end of the run. The games that follow are Kentucky-Michigan State and Duke-Kansas. Starting in a couple of hours, it's time to let college hoops take over our lives. This is going to be an interesting matchup. NC State was one of the most talented teams on paper last season. They lost a lot. The only memorable name from last year's squad is forward TJ Warren. He's a very good one. Both teams lost a lot. Cincinnati appears to be bringing more back and has the added advantage of playing at home. An effort like Friday night won't get it done though. This is a pretty interesting early season test for both squads. That's what this marathon is all about. Game Time: 5 pm TV: ESPN Spread: UC -7 History: NC State 6-1 In Cincinnati: NC State 2-1 Last Meeting: NC State 85-77, December 23, 2007 Record: 1-0 Coach: Mick Cronin 136-100 (205-124) Minutes Sean Kilpatrick - 34 Titus Rubles - 31 Jermaine Sanders - 31 Ge'Lawn Guyn - 23 Justin Jackson - 21 Points Sean Kilpatrick - 22 Jermaine Sanders - 13 Titus Rubles - 13 Justin Jackson - 8 Jermaine Lawrence - 6 Ge'Lawn Guyn - 6 Rebounds Titus Rubles - 8 Sean Kilpatrick - 7 Shaquille Thomas - 5 Jermaine Sanders - 4 Justin Jackson - 3 Assists Sean Kilpatrick - 4 Ge'Lawn Guyn - 3 Jermaine Sanders - 3 Troy Caupain - 2 Jermaine Lawrence - 1 Steals Sean Kilpatrick - 3 Titus Rubles - 3 Jermaine Lawrence - 2 Blocks Justin Jackson - 3 Titus Rubles - 1 Turnovers Shaquille Thomas - 3 Titus Rubles - 3 Justin Jackson - 2 Sean Kilpatrick - 2 David Nyarsuk - 1 Troy Caupain - 1 Field Goals Made Sean Kilpatrick - 6 Justin Jackson - 4 Jermaine Sanders  - 4 Titus Rubles - 3 Ge'Lawn Guyn - 2 Field Goals Attempted Sean Kilpatrick - 13 Jermaine Sanders - 8 Ge'Lawn Guyn - 7 Titus Rubles - 7 Kevin Johnson - 5 Justin Jackson - 5 3 Pointers Made Jermaine Sanders - 3 Ge'Lawn Guyn - 2 Sean Kilpatrick - 2 3 Pointers Attempted Sean Kilpatrick - 7 Jermaine Sanders - 6 Ge'Lawn Guyn - 4 Kevin Johnson - 2 Jeremiah Davis - 1 Troy Caupain - 1 Free Throws Made Sean Kilpatrick - 8 Titus Rubles - 7 Jermaine Lawrence - 4 Troy Caupain - 2 Jermaine Sanders -2 Free Throws Attempted Titus Rubles -12 Sean Kilpatrick - 9 Jermaine Lawrence - 5 Jermaine Sanders -3 Troy Caupain - 2 Record: 1-0 Coach: Mark Gottfried 49-24 (327-179) Minutes TJ Warren - 37 Desmond Lee - 36 Anthony Barber - 29 Tyler Lewis - 28 Kyle Washington - 22 Points TJ Warren - 27 Desmond Lee - 24 Tyler Lewis - 15 Anthony Barber - 13 Ralston Turner - 7 Rebounds TJ Warren - 8 Lennard Freeman - 6 Desmond Lee - 4 Ralston Turner - 3 Kyle Washington - 3 Assists Tyler Lewis - 6 Anthony Barber - 6 Ralston Turner - 2 Lennard Freeman - 2 Desmond Lee - 2 TJ Warren - 1 Steals TJ Warren - 3 Desmond Lee - 2 Tyler Lewis - 1 Blocks TJ Warren - 1 Turnovers TJ Warren - 3 Kyle Washington - 2 Anthony Barber - 2 Ralston Turner - 1 Lennard Freeman - 1 Tyler Lewis - 1 Desmond Lee - 1 Field Goals Made TJ Warren - 13 Desmond Lee - 10 Anthony Barber - 5 Tyler Lewis - 4 Lennard Freeman - 3 Field Goals Attempted TJ Warren - 20 Desmond Lee - 12 Tyler Lewis - 7 Anthony Barber - 7 Ralston Turner - 5 3 Pointers Made Patrick Wallace - 1 Ralston Turner - 1 Tyler Lewis - 1 Anthony Barber - 1 Desmond Lee - 1 3 Pointers Attempted Tyler Lewis - 3 Ralston Turner - 2 Desmond Lee - 2 TJ Warren - 2 Patrick Wallace - 1 Anthony Barber - 1 Paw Points One of the huge areas in every game is rebounding. The Cats rebounded pretty well against NC Central. NC State rebounded alright against Appalachian St. They did pull in 9 offensive rebounds. TJ Warren is going to be a very tough matchup down low. Desmond Lee had a great opener. UC couldn't stop a guard in their opener. The defense of Kilpatrick, Guyn, Caupain, Johnson and so on is going to be very important. Can't let them beat you with their studs. This game is expected to be the debut of the new offense. So we'll see what that's all about. Point guard play is going to be very important. I'm looking for Guyn to get a majority of the minutes yet again. 3 assists to 0 turnovers was a good start. He's got to bring it the whole game. Sean Kilpatrick is going to score. Who is going to step up? Jermaine Lawrence did in the opener. I'm looking for Shaq Thomas to make an impact on this one. He played just 11 minutes with 2 points. Time to unleash the Shaq. Kevin Johnson field goal attempt guess: 4 The NC State fight song Jermaine Lawrence is going to have a big first half. I'm thinking 8 points, 3 rebounds. I'm not sure about the second. This should be a really fun game. I'm not sure of what to expect. I do expect a Cincinnati victory. Cincinnati 72 NC State 62
