Charlotte just announced that junior guard DeMario Mayfield (Royston, Ga.) will miss the Pfeiffer exhibition game (November 1) due to a high right ankle sprain that occurred in practice last week. He has been vigorously rehabbing the injury.
Last season, in his first year with the 49ers, Mayfield finished third on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game. He sat out the 2010-11 season as a transfer from the University of Georgia. He finished second on the team in rebounding at seven boards per game, recorded three double-doubles and enjoyed seven games with at least 10 rebounds. Mayfield also tallied 18 double-figure scoring games including 13 of Charlotte’s last 15 games.
Hopefully the sprain resolves itself soon for both Mayfield and the Niners’. His versatility and ability to guard multiple positions is key for Alan Major’s team, which looks to build upon last year’s 13-17 finish in Alan Major’s third season at the helm.
