Found March 22, 2012 on Orange Fizz:
Syracuse takes on Wisconsin tonight in the Sweet 16 in Boston and The Fizz will be courtside. Before we take the T down to the TD Garden, here’s a Fizz 5 Preview of tonight’s clash of styles. 1. Pace, paaace, paaaaaaaace. Syracuse has proven it can win any type of game this year, but for the sake of your eyeballs you want this game to be played at the Orange’s tempo. Verne Lundquist told me yesterday he hopes the game is played at Syracuse’s pace because Wisconsin is so painfully slow. The Badgers have absolutely no problem eating all 35 seconds of the shot clock. On the defensive end, they are tough as nails and finding good shots against them is difficult. 2. Wisconsin will play man. This is a good, but probably not great. Bo Ryan didn’t definitively say Wisconsin would play only man, but they may try some zone. The Orange offense has been killed by the 2-3 recently. But Jordan Taylor says he hasn’t played one second of zone in his 4 years there, and he doesn’t think his team wil...

Late miss a tough ending for Badgers' Taylor

The last-second shot came up short, sending Wisconsin home from the NCAA tournament. It was Jordan Taylor's last play for the Badgers, but it won't be the way he'll be remembered. Taylor missed a long contested jumper at the end of an awkward final possession, and Wisconsin lost a one-point game to Syracuse on Thursday night. With that, the Badgers' season came to...

Badgers' Ryan appreciates overachieving club

MADISON, Wis. Bo Ryan tries to remain insulated from peripheral discussion about his Wisconsin basketball team, but he's perceptive enough to understand the pulse of a fan base. When the season began in October, the Badgers' coach heard from folks who thought this year's team might stink like a pigpen. So what, they said, if Wisconsin was ranked No. 15 in the preseason...

Anatomy of a Stop: How Syracuse Clamped Down on Wisconsin’s Final Shot

Syracuse’s Sweet 16 matchup with Wisconsin was the 40-minute dogfight we had expected, and predictably it came down to the last shot. The Badgers had a chance to send top seeded Syracuse home, but Jordan Taylor’s three came up short. The Fizz breaks down how SU defended the final possession. All game long the SU guards only extended the zone out to the three-point line, but...

Cheeseheads can revel in state's basketball

MADISON, Wis. When Cincinnati finally closed out Florida State in the NCAA tournament late Sunday night, the fervor over the fearsome college basketball foursome in Ohio kicked into high gear. For the first time in Sweet 16 history, four programs from the same state Cincinnati, Xavier, Ohio and Ohio State all had advanced to the second weekend in the same NCAA tournament. Talk...

Badgers Run Ends in Sweet 16 Thriller

Now that's how a basketball game should be played.  4th seeded Wisconsin traded blows and leads all game long with No. 1 seeded Syracuse but in the end the Orange came up victorious, winning 64-63 and ending the Badgers season.  Just how good of a game was it? “That’s the best game I’ve seen in a long time, that may be the best game we’ve played,” Syracuse coach...

Sweet 16 Preview: vs. Syracuse

Two programs diverged in their defensive philosophies, yet attempting the same goal - holding opponents to low scoring totals - meet tonight in the Sweet 16 when Wisconsin and their man-to-man defense takes on Syracuse and their "2-3" zone defense. Sometimes people like to over-think the game of basketball, but really it's a pretty simple game.  Don't let anyone...

East Bracket Sweet 16 Predictions

In the East bracket all the higher seeds won everything game but for one. That was Cincinnati beating Florida State. Check out my picks below to see who I think will advance to the Elite 8. Syracuse/ Wisconsin- To beat the legendary 2-3 Syracuse zone you need to able to shoot the three. This is a major strength for Wisconsin. In the tournament so far Wisconsin is shooting...
