Illinois State was beating Wichita State 67-60 Sunday night when Illinois State senior forward Jackie Carmichael grabbed a rebound off a missed jump shot. Guys are all about the boisterous rebound, for some unknown reason, but that usually involves a scream or a loud ball-slap. Carmichael added a roundhouse kick to the face and chest Illinois State guard Tekele Cotton for flare on this board.
Referees initially missed the kick, but reviewed it on the monitor during the next stoppage of play and eventually gave Carmichael a technical foul. Judge for yourself whether the kick was intentional, but there was actually some debate after the game whether it was. Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall told Pantagraph.com, ”I don’t know his intent. He’s coming out of the air, and Cotton is there and the foot goes to the face area.”
Carmichael, an all-Missouri Valley conference forward averaging 18.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
