But that’s what happened to Michigan’s Trey Burke on Sunday in a loss to AP number 2 Indiana, who claimed their first outright Big Ten title in 20 years.
In a game that came down to the last few seconds layups became a major factor. Indiana’s Cody Zeller put in a layup with just over 13 seconds left in the game to put the Hoosiers up 72-71. Michigan tried to respond quickly with Burke slicing his way to the basket almost unopposed, only to see his layup attempt to win the game fail. Burke was almost unopposed because Zeller was in his way.

Zeller played an outstanding game contributing 25 points and 10 rebounds along with his game winning bucket. After scoring the go ahead layup, Zeller sprinted down the floor in time to cause a slight disruption in Burke’s shot.
