The Iowa Hawkeye basketball team will be playing in its first postseason tournament since 2006 as they have been selected to play in the NIT.

After Iowa lost in the Big Ten Tournament, many began to wonder if that would be the last game of the season for them. Iowa was a team that was not a lock to make the NIT as some experts thought that they would fall just short of getting in.

The Hawkeyes did get in as a #7 seed and they will be hosting a first-round game against Dayton on Tuesday night, at 6:30 p.m. which can be seen on ESPN. Here is a link to the NCAA’s website that gives a complete bracket of all teams in the NIT.

This is the Hawkeyes first NIT appearance since being defeated by Saint Louis 70-69 in 2004. Dayton is in the same conference as Saint Louis and both teams play in the Atlantic 10 which is one of the better mid-major conferences in all of college basketball.

Dayton ended their season with an overall record of 20-12 and a conference record of 9-7.  In their only game against a Big Ten team this season, Dayton defeated Minnesota 86-70 in late November.

The Hawkeyes have a very good chance of winning this game as they have played well at home all season long. Dayton on the other hand, has struggled on the road and have lost 7-of-9 away from The University of Dayton Arena.

Here is a look at the complete results of the Iowa Hawkeyes in the NIT which has been provided by Hawkmania.com.
