Virginia opens at George Mason on Nov. 9, which would be the five-week and three-day mark of Evans’ rehab.

According to a press release from UVa, Evans suffered foot pain during workouts last week and surgery was considered the best option.

Evans is arguably Virginia’s most indispensable player. The 5-foot-11 Hampton native, the team’s only senior, started all 32 games last season and was named to the All-ACC Defensive Team.

“Wahoo Nation don’t worry I’ll be back before you know it!!! Minor set back for a major comeback,” Evans wrote on Twitter.

With Evans out look for freshmen Teven Jones and Taylor Barnette to fill in at the point guard position.
