Jelon Hornbeak Commits to the Oklahoma Sooners

Since taking over in April, Oklahoma Sooners coach Lon Kruger has been busy on the recruiting trail, trying to restore the rich history and tradition of a once proud basketball program.  He first signed JUCOs Sam Grooms and Casey Arent, making up the 2011 class.

As 2012 neared and many top recruits were starting to make their decisions, some Sooner fans became restless however, wondering if it was time to start focusing on 2013 and its remaining Sooner prospects.

How quickly the tables have turned.

Fresh off the commitment of Buddy Hield last week, Kruger brought in another top 100 guard this weekend in Jelon Hornbeak of Arlington Grace Prep (TX).  After witnessing a 62-6 beating of Ball State by the Sooner football team, Hornbeak made his commitment to Oklahoma public Sunday afternoon.

Hornbeak, ranked 89th nationally by Rivals.com, paired with Hield give the Sooners two top-100 prospects for 2012.  He choseOklahoma over Texas Tech, South Florida, Pittsburgh and Marquette.

The 6-foot-4 wing will look to play a major role for the Sooners in the 2012-2013 season as a combo guard.

With one scholarship now remaining, Lon Kruger will most likely look to find a big man.  Though that spot appears to be dwindling, fans shouldn’t sleep on Kruger’s ability to find the right guy.

He has certainly been doing a fantastic job as of late, proving all the doubters wrong in every way since taking over about 6 months ago.

With Kruger at the helm, the Sooner program looks to be getting back on the right track at a very fast pace.
