Shaky at the start, No. 3 Louisville outscored College of Charleston 22-3 over the final 6:41 on Saturday to pull away to a 70-48 victory in the first game of its national championship defense. Preseason All-America Russ Smith led Louisville with 21 points and five assists. His new backcourtmate Chris Jones, last season's junior college player of the year, added 12 points and five assists. Charleston trailed 48-45 after freshman Canyon Barry's hit a 17-footer with 6:55 to play. Then Smith asserted himself, hitting two free throws and driving to find forwards Montrezl Harrell and Wayne Blackshear for easy baskets that gave the Cardinals a 54-45 lead with 5:05 left. Charleston scored again with 2:42 remaining, making it 61-47 and ending a 13-0 Louisville run. Barry led Charleston with 10 points while Adjehi Baru added eight points and nine rebounds. Louisville raised its third national championship banner to the rafters before the game.

Which Louisville Basketball Players Are Poised To Step Up In Supporting Roles?

Russpassulous? Sequels to movies only work when one of two things happen: The exact same element that worked in the first movie is found again in the second, or, it’s the Godfather II. If Louisville basketball’s 2013-14 season were going to be a movie, it wouldn’t be the Godfather, although some Louisville fans will point to Rick Pitino and claim him as such. No, this season...

Louisville’s focus is on Behanan rather than an upcoming oppoent

Chane Behanan apparently has adhering closely to whatever the regimen was that allowed to him to return to the good graces of the University of Louisville administration. He’ll be back on the bench for the opening game against College of Charleston. Still no indication of what he did that got him temporarily suspended and booted out of Minardi Hall, the team’s official residence...

Louisville 70 – College of Charleston 48: Cards Pull Away In The Second Half

Timothy Easley – Associated Press The first half wasn’t exactly what we expected to see from the defending national champions, but midway through the second half Louisville was able to pull away from College-of-Charleston and cruise to a 70-48 win in their season opener. “We were a little tight and lost our responsibilities constantly on defense and I knew this was going to...

AP Photo/Timothy D. Easley At this point, we still don’t know the exact date that we can expect Chane Behanan to return from his indefinite suspension. However, one thing we do know is that the junior forward will be in the Yum! Center as Louisville opens the 2013-14 season. Louisville Knocks Off UConn 31-10

Jared Wickerham – Getty Images Although the game was never really in question, I think it’s safe to say that Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals didn’t have their best performance on Friday night as they knocked off the winless UConn Huskies, 31-10. There were a lot of uncharacteristic dropped balls and penalties. Some of the penalties didn’t appear to be very good...

Louisville receiver makes one handed catch with defender holding the other

Louisville defeated Connecticut by a final score of 31-10 Friday night. The win keeps Teddy Bridgewater and the Cardinals in the thick of the American championship hunt but the Cardinals still need Houston to defeat Central Florida on Saturday to keep that hope alive. The Cardinals also provided a few highlights throughout the evening in Storrs that literally dozens of fans stuck...
