The 2013-14 college basketball preseason AP Poll was released shortly after 1 PM this afternoon with your Louisville Cardinals coming in at No. 3 in the rankings. Kentucky and Michigan State were both ranked ahead of the defending national champions. I’m very curious to know if the voters filled out their ballots prior to the Chane Behanan suspension. If they voted following the suspension, it’d be interesting to see where they’d rank the Cards with Behanan back on the team. AP Preseason Poll Record Pts 1. Kentucky (27) 21-12 1,546 2. Michigan St. (22) 27-9 1,543 3. Louisville (14) 35-5 1,501 4. Duke (2) 30-6 1,435 5. Kansas 31-6 1,357 6. Arizona 27-8 1,311 7. Michigan 31-8 1,120 8. Oklahoma St. 24-9 1,093 8. Syracuse 30-10 1,093 10. Florida 29-8 1,048 11. Ohio St. 29-8 1,036 12. North Carolina 25-11 954 13. Memphis 31-5 741 14. VCU 27-9 680 15. Gonzaga 32-3 538 16. Wichita St. 30-9 512 17. Mid-Career Evaluation: Blackshear & Behanan

Chane Behanan and Wayne Blackshear highlighted the 2011 recruiting class which was going to light up the sky following a disappointing first round NCAA Tournament loss. A class that once ranked in the top five in the country only features three of the initial commits. Blackshear, Behanan and Ware. We all heard how Blackshear was a lights out shooter, and with a 6’5” frame, could...

ESPN Ranks Louisville No. 6 In Their Preseason Power Rankings

Around 1 PM this afternoon, the 2013-14 preseason College Basketball AP Poll will be released. Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals are expected to fall anywhere between the top five. Prior to the suspension of Chane Behanan, Louisville was expected to be No. 1 or No. 2, however without Behanan suspended indefinitely, I’m sure there are some voters who kept that in mind while...

Russ Smith explains challenge with NBA scouts, current team

Photo: Dylan Coulter – ESPN “The return of Russdiculous” is the title of a piece  appearing in next week’s College Basketball Preview for ESPN The Magazine. Instead of another story hashing out Russ’s incredible personality, or his roller coaster relationship with Rick Pitino; they allowed Russ to explain why he has returned to Louisville for his senior season. What results...

ESPN Names Montrezl Harrell The Top Breakout Player In The Country

Louisville fans have been expecting a huge sophomore season from Montrezl Harrell after the high praise from Coach Pitino in the offseason and his stellar performances in the Red & White games. On Tuesday night against Kentucky Wesleyan, Harrell was dominant and continued to prove that he is capable of being one of the best big men in the country this season. Earlier this week...

Kevin Ware Is One X-Ray Away From Fully Practicing During Louisville’s first exhibition game of the season last night against Kentucky Wesleyan, junior guard Kevin ware ran out of the tunnel with the team and participated in warm-ups. Although he hasn’t been fully cleared to play, there didn’t seem to be any noticeable limping or favoring of the broken leg that he suffered in the Elite 8 against Duke last season...

Louisville Could Lead The Country In Dunks This Season

Some folks find it hard to believe that Chane Behanan tied Pervis Ellison’s single season slam dunk record of 59 in 2012-13. Although there are plenty of slam dunks from Behanan last season that we remember, there were also a fair share of missed layups and dunks as well. In just two seasons with the Louisville program, Behanan has 109 slam dunks, which ranks for fifth all time...

Louisville 115 – KWC 67: Post Game Notes

Photo By: Jeff Reinking | Louisville Athletics Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals had their first exhibition game of the season on Tuesday night as they trounced Kentucky Wesleyand 115-67. Despite it being a foul fest, Louisville looked pretty solid. It’s almost scary to think that they played that well and didn’t have guys like Chane Behanan, Kevin Ware and Luke Hancock...

Huge Change In Bowl Projections For Louisville Since Losing To Central Florida

Unfortunately for Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals, their disappointing loss to Central Florida a couple of weeks ago has resulted in a huge change in where they’re projected to go bowling this season. Although the BCS bowl bid is still possible, the Cards need there to be a three-way tie for first place in the American Athletic Conference and need to have the highest...

College Basketball Beware, Montrezl Harrell Is Going To Dunk On You

AP Photo: Timothy Easley October 29th was the day I’ve been looking forward to all summer. While I despise the weather change, the beginning of basketball season makes my impending hibernation much easier to handle. Goodbye summer, hello Montrezl Harrell. Did you know Louisville has an NBA player on their roster? Harrell has been picked by many as the breakout star this season...

Good Luck Defending Louisville’s Back-Court This Year Without Fouling

AP Photo: Timothy D. Easley There were 46 total fouls called last night in Louisville 115-67 exhibition win over Kentucky Wesleyan. We had been warned about how the new rules in college basketball would affect the games, but I don’t think the majority of those who were in attendance at the KFC Yum! Center expected it to be called as tightly as it did. Louisville was already in...

Cardinals ready for new hand-check rule

There was an exorbitant number of fouls called during Louisville's 115-67 exhibition win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Tuesday night, but Rick Pitino isn't complaining. The Hall of Fame coach has been preparing his team for the new "hands-off" style of play for weeks.

Fresh Off A Business Trip, Terry Rozier Is Finally Here & Ready To Contribute

Photo By: Jeff Reinking | Louisville Athletics I’m not exactly sure if there is room at the moment in the starting lineup for freshman guard Terry Rozier, but I’m beginning to think that when it’s all said and done it’ll be hard to keep him out. There were multiple players who stood out during Louisville’s beat-down of Kentucky Wesleyan on Tuesday night. However, Terry...

Lamar Atkins thriving in new role for Cards

University of Louisville redshirt freshman Lamar Atkins has moved to the offensive side of the ball into the fullback role. He's become a major cog in the U of L offense in recent weeks.
