The Memphis Tigers were eliminated from the NCAA March Madness tourney today courtesy the Michigan State Spartans. Well, Tigers senior D.J. Stephens, who averaged 2.6 blocks this season and is coming off an 8-block performance against the St. Mary’s Gaels, swatted the Spartans Adreian Payne’s hook shot with the animosity of someone scorned by impending defeat. Check the video out here: H/T to Joseph Casciaro of the Score for the video.

DJ Stephens’ monstrous block on Adreian Payne

The Memphis Tigers were destroyed by the Michigan State Spartans in the third round of the NCAA tournament, but DJ Stephens block on Adreian Payne was probably the highlight of the game.  Stephens averaged 2.6 blocks per game this season and had eight blocks against St. Mary’s in the second round of the tournament. Adreian Payne throws down on Valparaiso

In the opening game of the NCAA Tournament, Michigan State made quick work of Valparaiso, beating them 65-54.  The Spartans dominated the Crusaders early and often and Adreian Payne showed off his skills by posterizing this Valparaiso defender. [Guyism]

Video: Adreian Payne’s alley-oop was outstanding

The Michigan St Spartans are headed to the Sweet 16 for the 11th time in the last 16 seasons, as they downed Memphia 70-48 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The highlight of the day came from power forward Adreian Payne who threw down a Keith Appling lob, with a bit of a bobble: Those were the most emphatic 2 points of the 14 Payne scored. He also contributed with 10 rebounds and 5...

Memphis survives frantic finish, beats St Mary's

When D.J. Stephens is dunking and blocking shots, Memphis looks like a team that could make an extended run in this NCAA tournament. Then, the Tigers start missing free throws and turning the ball over - and suddenly no lead seems safe. ''It's the NCAA tournament. Things like that happen,'' coach Josh Pastner said. ''We just missed some free throws down...

D.J. Stephens Had a Poster Of a Block

D.J. Stephens has a ridiculous amount of hops and they were on full display during Memphis’ second round match-up against the Spartans. Check out how high D.J. gets above the rim to absolutely steal the soul from Adreian Payne. Disgusting. [Yahoo] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Gaels a shot short against Memphis in 54-52 loss

Matthew Dellavedova caught the ball and took one more 3-pointer. It was about as good a scenario as Saint Mary's could have hoped for, especially since the Gaels were trailing by five moments earlier. But Dellavedova, the school's career leader in scoring, missed long as time expired. ''As soon as Delli got the ball in the corner, we all thought it was going to...

Memphis eliminated by 70-48 loss to Michigan State

Entering the NCAA tournament, Memphis trailed only Gonzaga in wins. After the sixth-seeded Tigers were eliminated by a 70-48 loss to Michigan State on Saturday, they remained among the most confident schools in the nation. ''We know we have one of the best teams in the country,'' Memphis forward D.J. Stephens said. ''We should have never lost this game....
