Jenison Fieldhouse will open its doors for the first Michigan State basketball game since 1989 when the Spartans moved into the Jack Breslin Students Events Center.  Jenison was the place that East Lansing legends Magic Johnson, Steve Smith, Greg Kelser, Scott Skiles, Sam Vincent and Johnny Green called home.

On December 15, 2012, it will be home for a night to Keith Appling, Branden Dawson, Adreian Payne and Gary Harris.  Athletic director Mark Hollis announced Tuesday that MSU will host Tuskegee, a historically-black  Division-II school.

Jenison will hold roughly 5,000 for what’s being dubbed the “Jenison Jubilee”.  Along with the MSU-Tuskegee matchup, the weekend will also include a reunion game Dec. 14, and the MSU women’s team playing IPFW in Jenison on Dec. 16.  There are rumors that Magic Johnson might partake in the reunion game.

Ticket prices are already lined up according to the Detroit Free Press:

Tickets for the Dec. 15 contest are $30 and will not be included with the men’s basketball season-ticket package. They will be sold based on donor priority (limit four or two, depending on donor level), with staggered on-sale dates announced later.

Tickets for the reunion game with former Spartans will be separate from MSU-Tuskegee contest. Reunion-game tickets also will be $30 and sold based on donor priority.\

The game has been an event in the making for Hollis.  And while I absolutely love the idea.  I question the name.  The Jenison Jubilee makes me envision Appling and Payne chasing around butterflies with nets as Dawson and Harris play hopscotch and cat’s cradle.
