During warm-ups leading up to the opening tip, you could just sense that the Missouri Tigers basketball team was 110 percent focused on finally getting the monkey off its back. That focus, particularly on the defensive end, led to a convincing 78-36 win over Mississippi State, giving Mizzou its first road victory of the season. Head coach Frank Haith commanded the Mizzou defense from the start, which completely shut down the Bulldogs and did not allow one bucket in the first nine minutes of play. Mizzou was up two touchdowns with an early 14-0 lead before Colin Borchert finally ended the shutout on a 3-pointer for Mississippi State’s first score of the game. The Mizzou defense forced Mississippi State to shoot an atrocious 23.9 percent from the field. When the Bulldogs were missing, the Tigers were grabbing the rebounds as well.
