ESPN's Brent Musburger became a topic of national conversation when he got a little too excited over the presence of Katherine Webb during the BCS National Championship Game.  Brent's comments drew so much attention that ESPN apologized, saying the veteran went too far in admiring Webb's beauty.  For her part, Miss Alabama's newfound fame has taken her to the Today Show and the SI Swimsuit Issue.

Thus far, Musburger has declined to speak and answer his critics with regards to his comments about Webb.  That was until Monday night's Baylor-Kansas game when he signed off the air with this pipebomb regarding sideline reporter Holly Rowe:

"For Fran Fraschilla and Holly Rowe, who was really smokin' tonight, I want to say so long from Lawrence."

My Lord, that is an amazing moment in sports broadcasting history.  Only Musburger knows whether that was a giant middle finger to his critics, a joke to make light of the situation, brilliant reverse troll job, or the end of his announcing career.  For the first time in the history of this website, I'm utterly speechless.

UPDATE: ESPN Vice President, Communications Josh Krulewitz offered up the following tweet attempting to clarify what Musburger said:

Rowe has been with ESPN since 1998 and in addition to reporting from the court during college basketball games, also serves as a sideline reporter for the network's college football broadcasts.

More from Awful Announcing:
  • smokin can imply a lot of things but yes .. brents hormones are a bit whack in his old age ...
  • He must be smoking if he thinks Holly is hot! He made Webb a lot of money, but I doubt this will help Rowe. ESPN being owned by ABC is getting to politically correct. Notice the number of minorities, and women they have covering sports or anchoring there shows. Some are obviously talented, and deserve the job. Others make me wonder if they're token gender or race offering.
  • HE DID NOT CALL HER SMOKIN. He said For Fran Fraschilla and Holly Rowe, IT was really smokin' tonight, I want to say so long from Lawrence." (meaning the game not her!!!)
Listen to it he said IT not WHO quit trying to make something out of nothing
  • hahahaha, IT was smoking hot tonight! lol....

WATCH: Goodell stumbles on domestic violence question

Roger Goodell read a prepared statement during his press conference on Friday and then answered questions using lines given to him by PR people/crisis management firms.
