NBA Draft Scouting Report: Arkansas' Khalif Battle
USA TODAY Sports

Khalif Battle

Guard | Arkansas

Height: 6'5” | Weight: 185 lbs

2024 Draft Age: 23.99

Prospect Profile

Although he’s played four college seasons, Battle still could have upside to his game that has yet to be seen. He played just 264 total minutes at Butler as a freshman, followed by 346 and 223 minutes in year two and three (Temple) respectively. Last season with the Owls — in what was his fourth college season — Battle played 870 total minutes and really got into a groove.

Known for being a prolific scorer, he’s averaged nearly 19 points per game over his last two seasons at Temple while shooting 37.3% from deep on 7.7 attempts. The volume shooter has a smooth stroke from beyond the arc and also is a fantastic free throw shooter, so the 3-point shot is a very translatable skill.

Make no mistake, Battle can also score from inside the arc as well. Just last season he converted on nearly 50% of his 2-pointers and also proved very effective at getting to the line.

This season at Arkansas as a transfer, it will be interesting what type of role he plays. Battle attempted 14 shots per contest last season, but may not get that much volume with the Razorbacks in the SEC. Ensuring he’s able to score efficiently on fewer attempts will be key this season, as that will be a more similar role to the one he plays at the NBA level. Regardless, Battle is a strong, dynamic three-level scorer.

Although his ability to facilitate has fluctuated in recent years, there’s certainly some upside as a lead guard situationally for Battle. He isn’t a high assist guy, but does have vision and can be a connecting piece. This will be especially true with a more well-rounded roster this season. However, taking care of the ball will be a focal point as he’s known for being a high turnover player at times.

Battle has the frame and athleticism to be an adequate defender at the next level. Given NBA teams value players with two-way upside, proving he can make an impact on the defensive end against some of the best players in the country this season could really help his draft stock.

The former four-star recruit has taken some time to truly emerge as an NBA-ready prospect, but Battle is clearly that now. Keep an eye on him as an underrated second-round or undrafted prospect this summer. It's worth noting he will be turning 24 years old just days after the 2024 NBA Draft.
