After two seasons at Siena, McCollum is now taking the floor in Big 12 action as a member of the Oklahoma Sooners. Known for being a crafty scorer, that trend has continued even with the increased level of competition, as the 6-foot-2 guard has emerged as one of the top scoring options on his new team.
McCollum is a dynamic shot maker and space creator that’s capable of creating shots for himself and others. His feel, poise and early understanding of how to find a balance between scoring and facilitating has been impressive. On any given night, McCollum truly has the ability to either score 20 or operate as the team’s lead playmaker for others and dish out a high number of assists.
Despite being undersized for an NBA guard and having a slight frame, McCollum’s combination of scoring and playmaking should have scouts tuned in. While this will likely limit him at the next level on the defensive end, he plays with energy and passion which can’t be underestimated.
The former three-star recruit has worked his way up in the college ranks and has now proven he’s a productive player in arguably the best conference in college hoops. Although it may be as a late second rounder or undrafted situation, he has what it takes to make an impact at some point in the NBA.
