The Viking shooters warmed up in the second half and Portland State came away with an important Big Sky Conference road win at Eastern Washington, 87-76, on Monday. PSU made eight three-pointers and shot .607 from the field overall in the second half. The Vikings also hit 14-19 at the line scoring 56 points after intermission. Kyle Richardson had one of his best games of the season in leading five Vikings in double figures. Richardson scored 22 points, hitting 8-10 field goals and 6-8 at the line. He added eight rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots. "He's doing a really good job and coming into his own," said Viking Coach Tyler Geving The win moved Portland State into a four-way tie for sixth-place in the 11-team Big Sky Conference at 8-8 with Eastern Washington, Montana State and Northern Arizona. The Vikings are one game out of a three-way tie for third place. Portland State is 13-12 overall this season. The Vikings were up 20-11 midway through the first half by taking advantage of four Eagle turnovers. The largest PSU lead was 27-16 at the 4:19 mark. But the Eagles went on a 14-3 run to close out the half and the Vikings led only 31-30. PSU came out firing in the second half, going on a 16-7 run in the first four minutes. And from there the Vikings never trailed again. The lead was pushed to double digits when the Vikings made four straight three-pointers, three coming from Gary Winston and a fourth from Tim Douglas. When Andre Winston Jr. made a driving layin and ensuing free throw, PSU had its largest lead at 69-55 with 6:25 to play. Portland State finished the night shooting .484 from the field, .440 from three-point range and .762 at the line. That effort, combined with a mere six turnovers, made all the difference. Marcus Hall scored 16 points, while Douglas and Andre Winston Jr. each had 14. Gary Winston scored 12. Hall and Douglas each made four three-pointers and Gary Winston hit three. "We haven't shot it well on the road, but tonight we did," said Geving.
