Found November 21, 2013 on The Cardinal Connect:
Associated Press There was a lot of excitement between both sides when it was announced last year that Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals would most likely face Roy Williams’ North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2013 Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic. Unfortunately, in the last few weeks, the potential match-up has lost some of it’s luster. The Tarheels started the season ranked No.  in the preseason AP Poll, but unfortunately they didn’t keep that high ranking very long.  In their second game of the season, Carolina was upset by Belmont 83-80 on their home floor. To make matters worse, it was confirmed on Thursday that standouts  P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald will not travel with the team to Connecticut for this weekend’s Tipoff Classic. Hairston ran into some off the court issues during the offseason. He was pulled over twice while driving a rental vehicle linked to a felon and party promoter, which raised a red flag regarding improper benefits. McDonald’s issues haven’t been quite...

Pitino watches newest, tallest recruit

Rick Pitino was in New York Wednesday to see his latest University of Louisville recruit in action, the 7-foot-2 Matz Stockman from Norway. Stockman is not going to be a dominating force by any means. The good news is that he doesn’t appear to be awkward or skinny for his size. Just far enough along talent wise that Pitino can develop this young man into an effective big man. Stockman...

Pitino lands big catch from Norway

One way to change the subject is to sign a 7-foot-2 center. That’s exactly what Rick Pitino did Tuesday, receiving the paperwork from Matz Stockman who hails from Norway. According to his coach, Stockman also has a 7-foot-6 wing span “and is extremly agile. He has the potential to be elite, it’s just a matter of time.” Add a little beef to that 238-pound frame and he could...

Rick Pitino Says The Media Needs To Do Their Homework

Boston Globe Following Louisville’s blowout win over Hartford last night, it took exactly two minutes for a reporter to ask head coach Rick Pitino about the recent Kevin Ware speeding ticket/missed court date. It was Courier-Journal columnist Tim Sullivan who lobbed the question that we all knew would eventually be asked. “I’m not going to play a player because he got a speeding...

Louisville Leads The Country In Assists-To-Turnover Ratio

Pete Cautilli – The Cardinal Connect Rick Pitino’s team has been impressive in many different areas so far this season. Their defense always looks solid at this time of the year, however Tuesday’s performance was one of the best I’ve ever seen from a Pitino coached team. The offense usually takes a little bit of time to start gelling, but so far in 2013-14, the Cards offense...

Louisville 87 – Hartford 48: Cards Hammer Hawks

Pete Cautilli – The Cardinal Connect Let’s be honest with ourselves. Teams like Hofstra, Cornell and Hartford aren’t great measuring sticks at this point of the season. With that said, regardless of the competition, Rick Pitino’s team looks dangerously good right now. The Cards came out tonight against Hartford playing as if it were the season opener and they’d been upset...

Still A Lot To Be Learned About Louisville’s New 7-Foot-2 Signee

Rick Pitino and Quentin Snider shocked CardNation (and Illini Nation) on Friday when it was announced that Snider was coming back to his original commitment, and signing with the Louisville Cardinals. That addition gave Louisville four 2014 ESPN 100 recruits along with Shaqquan Aaron, Jaylen Johnson and Chinanu Onuaku. Those four players put the recruiting class just outside the...

Pitino may have let Kevin Ware down

All the air seems to have gone out of the Kevin Ware story for now, perhaps just another 24-hour news story. Rick Pitino, showing where his priorities lie, putting Ware in the University of Louisville’s basketball game against Hartford with just over 11 minutes to go in the first half. He would play six minutes in the game. Afterwards, Pitino would criticize the media for jumping...

The Return Of Pitino’s Bambino’s

Pete Cautilli – The Cardinal Connect Rick Pitino was one of the first coaches in the NCAA to massively incorporate the three point shot into his offense.  At every stop along the way Coach P has had a militia of dead-eye shooters at his disposal.  Guys like Tony Delk, Francisco Garcia, and Reece Gains are all guys who played under Rick who were well known marksmen from downtown...

Louisville-Fairfield Preview

As long as Louisville continues to take care of the basketball and play good defense, coach Rick Pitino can live through the latest distraction surrounding his team. The third-ranked Cardinals hope to maintain their focus while trying for a 21st straight victory Saturday against Fairfield in the Hall of Fame Tipoff at Uncasville, Conn. Pitino and Louisville (4-0) successfully dealt...

UNC: Weekly Hairston/McDonald Update

As has been the case since the summer, nothing has changed regarding the status of P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald in terms of resolving their lingering eligibility issues with the NCAA. As such, neither player will accompany the team as they travel to Ucansville, CT for two games in the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament. The Tar Heels are scheduled to face Richmond on Satuday at...
