(Photo credit: ZJB Photography) Two wins, two losses, and one injury followed the Butler Bulldogs back to Indianapolis. The injury was so devastatingly detrimental that the Bulldogs have to scramble through their roster to find a solid and strong replacement. It was only about five weeks ago Butler fans lost legendary coach Brad Stevens to the Boston Celtics, a top tier NBA franchise. Nearly one month later, the first day opening up the month of August, Blue II, a bulldog and the school’s iconic mascot, announced to the public he was dying from an untreatable heart disease. The Butler community believed that that was the end of a big chain of bad luck. We all thought wrong. On Friday, August 16, junior returning starter, top returning scorer and rebounder for the Bulldogs, Roosevelt Jones suffered a terrible wrist injury while competing in Australia during the teams’ tour Down Under. Their tour showcased Australia’s top basketball teams. The injury was so brutal that Jones will not be battling in the 2013-14 season – a huge blow to the teams’ mentality heading into the school year and preseason training. Jones joined the squad in 2011, the season following a loss in the final game of the 2010 NCAA Final Four, to the University of Connecticut. He has been a major asset to the Bulldogs ever since. As a sophomore, during the 2012-13 season, Jones averaged a team-high 3.5 assists. In last years’ season, he also averaged 5.6 rebounds and 10.1 points per game, as well as being the only Butler player to start all 36 games. The season before, he appeared in 36 games, 31 of them as a starter.  In 67 consecutive games, he started for the Bulldogs. Notably, Jones was the man who defeated, at the time, No. 8 Gonzaga University in early January of the 2013-14 season. The Bulldogs hosted their first ever ESPN College GameDay against Gonzaga, grabbing a victory off of a buzzer-beater from Jones. Without Jones this entire season, the Bulldogs will seriously struggle. Newly selected head coach, Brandon Miller certainly has his hands full early in his coaching career. The challenge has been set for Miller. Do you think he’ll muster up a strong squad for this upcoming season?
