Fuquan Edwin scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Eugene Teague added 16 points and 11 rebounds, leading Seton Hall to a 78-65 victory over Norfolk State in the Naismith Memorial Tip-Off Classic Monday night.
The Pirates (2-0) move on to face Washington Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Norfolk State (1-1), which defeated Rhode Island in the opening round of the tournament last Friday, got 20 points from Pendarvis Williams and 15 from Malcolm Hawkins.
Edwin scored 17 of his game-high 23 in the second half. Kyle Smyth added 14 points off the bench for the Pirates, and Brandon Mobley grabbed 10 rebounds for Seton Hall.
Norfolk State, which stunned second-seeded Missouri in the opening round of last year's NCAA tournament, led only once as the Pirates used their size advantage to pull away in the second half.
Seton Hall came out of the blocks strong and scored five of the first six points. Brian Oliver's 3-pointer gave the Pirates a 5-1 lead with 18:31 left.
The Pirates held the lead for most of the first half and led by as many as six points, 18-12, on the second of two straight 3-pointers from Smyth.
But the Spartans took a 21-20 advantage on a 3-pointer from Kievyn Lila-St. Rose with 7:29 left. It was the lone lead of the half for Norfolk State.
Teague hit consecutive power moves down low that gave the Pirates the lead for good, as Seton Hall held a 31-29 halftime advantage. The Pirates did not attempt a single free throw in the first half.
Teague continued his hot hand as the second half began, scoring five straight Seton Hall points to give the Pirates a 36-31 lead with 17:28 left.
Seton Hall outscored Norfolk State 9-2 over the first 3:45 of the second half to take a 40-31 lead with 16:15 remaining, the Pirates' biggest lead of the game to that point.
The Pirates went on to expand their lead into double digits. Patrik Auda hit a power layup off a nice pass from Smyth that pushed the lead to 67-53 with 5:08 left.
