USA Today The amazing 52-game non-conference winning streak is over for Syracuse. The same team that was rattled by Detroit on Monday had some major flaws exposed in its 83-79 loss to Temple. It also happened at SU’s “home away from home” inside the Garden. One loss to a good Owls team is not the end of the world. But the Orange didn’t play its best game against an unfamiliar foe, and that can be how it ends in the NCAA Tourney. Not much went well for SU in an ugly, choppy, slow-tempo game at MSG. Central New York has wondered if this team was actually better than last year’s squad that lost just three games. Here’s why it’s not (at least yet), with the Fizz Five Flaws revealed after this loss. Height Advantage: Why MCW’s Length Makes Him the Nation’s Best PG

It’s well documented Michael Carter-Williams is having a phenomenal year on the court (the shoplifting story has been unwanted off of it). But from a hoops standpoint, even those who thought MCW should’ve gotten more run last year (*hand up*) couldn’t have predicted he would this type of leap. He’s not only leading the nation in assists, he now has a streak of 5 straight...

Stats Slant: Underrated edition

From now until April, try to watch a Saturday-night episode of SportsCenter without hearing the names Doug McDermott (Creighton), Michael Carter-Williams (Syracuse), or Cody Zeller (Indiana)… You can’t do it.  (Side Note: Those of you ‘Cuse fans discouraged with MCW’s poor performance on Saturday against Temple, calm down.  Dude is tops in the nation in assists per game...
